  • Mercury 150 Black Max 2-stroke REBUILD

So my best friend threw a rod completely through the top end of his 150 Mercury and we're planning on a rebuild. I joined over at marineengine.com to test their forum members knowledge but I was curious about our members experience with marine engines. Has anyone ever used a 6x6world thread for this type of thing? Would it be worth doing a rebuild thread here? I'd rather be here where I'm comfortable with uploading pictures and things. Any opinions?

    Thanks!

(Plus the other stupid forums don't have my peace sign dude.. I love him)

I've rebuilt Outboards, but never a Mercury, and never gotten hold of a Black Max (Not for lack of want...)
I see your thread and it looks like you're getting answers. It takes some good damage to write off a 2-stroke like that. Used blocks could be sourced, if not easily.

Find out why it blew of course. Since you pre-mix, did the PO tune the carbs? If not it's been running leaner since it started running pre-mix. Also if it's underpropped too much, you've got it turning too much RPM. Overpropped and it's overloaded and under excess stress at WFO.

    Good luck!
