  • Maple syrup anyone?

Nothing to fix last week so i built this woodfired evaporator to boil some maple sap collected from our trees.
Next is to add a door and flue stack but it worked great on a test boil.

8 gallons of sap and 4 hours boiling to make this pure maple syrup.
Not really related to 6 wheeling but the wood was collected with my Bazooo.

I've always wanted a maple tree.. (the maple syrup kind). Do you know if you can grow them out west?

Real maple syrup is pretty good! when i was in vermont a few years ago on vacation, EVERYONE made and sold it! i was pretty far north too though so that may have something to do with it? (6 miles from canadian border, at seymour lake) EXPENSIVE, but good stuff! lol cheapest we found was 35 a gallon.
I have officially caught the 6-wheel-sickness!!

This year the weather has been perfect for the sap to run....freezing cold nights and above freezing during the day.
There are a few sugar shacks in Southern Ontario but most are up north or in Quebec and the eastern USA.
It takes more than 20 years of growth before you can tap a tree.

That fantastic Bazooo guy! I love real maple syrup and had a friend from the forum bring me some when he came to visit the other day...had pancakes and French toast this morning with it and then afterwards got to read your post.. Really interesting to see your video on how it's made...thanks for sharing and Happy Easter to all :-)
