Airboat Question

Jus sniffin around I know you fellas from the southern states are real big into Airboats,Ive been eyeballing for one of these used and on this side of the border they are scarce and expensive,the other issue is I want to use one to access my cottage during ice breakup and when it is not yet safe for any other method of travel,so to the point would it require a special type of bottom on the boat to stand up to ice and is this a reasonable addition to a boat from down south or are those boats more or less not suitable for this applicationfrom what I have been able to find it seems like you could pickup a decent used for 10 to 15k ish for a two person boat I need a Airboat educatiom.Cheers NCT

uhmw- teflon i had a 13ft 300hp..v6 1/8 in alun.hull with 1/2 umhw bottom bolt ed on 500 ss bolts..will go anywere you want anywere ....!!!!we run a lot of dry ground in alaska>>>>>>>>>>>>>....><}}}}};>

Interesting whitefisher thanks for the info,never really thought of you guys up there using them,guess I was just profiling saying its was a southern thing,Bazooo guy I had one of those starships fifteen or so years ago,it worked alright but kept having trouble tearing up the Skirt bags it was way to much maintenance,Plott the bold I will take you up on that I fiqure I could have some year round fun on the river and would be great for the ice in/ice out.NCT

Lots of big air boats up here. Before you buy one ask how many gallons of fuel per hour does it burn. 20 per hour is common. Old formula I learned as an apprentice is 1/2 pound of fuel per horsepower per hour. Math done 500 HP = 250 pounds HR = $$$$$$$$

That would be getting on for £130 an hour over here, or close on $200

Thats not totally shocking but good info msafi65,kinda figured it would be up there we have owned plenty of normal boats that where at the useage and more,but fact remains it would be a 5 min trip at best to the cabin.NCT

My airboat expert just left for Africa on safari. When he gets back ill ask about ice and snow. I've heard that they don't controll well on ice , no drag on the bottom. Ill fond out.

My 300 hp. v6 3 to 5 gal hr.in the swamps runing light- 10 to 12 gal. -overloaded in -deep water -20 to 90 degrees- ice, snow, dry ground ,,swamp,1/2 uhmw bottom makes it go anywere you want.......except - dry sand ..
