Fort Nelson resident, 10yr old Myriah Keays has successfully completed her Open Water SCUBA Diving course with SSI (Scuba Schools International).
She is now certified to do recreational dives up to 100 feet with an adult up to the age of 15, at which time she can dive without an adult.
Myriah is in Grade 5, and spending three months in Paa Mul, Mexico, on the Caribbean coast, with her family.
On her first four dives she saw, most notably, a Green Turtle, a Hawksbill Turtle, Christmas Tree Worms, Sea Urchins, Lion Fish, Green Eel, Spotted Eel, Rainbow Parrot Fish, and many other colourful fish and corals.
Her sisters are looking forward to following suit when they reach age ten. Myriah has been enrolled in local PreSchool and Red Cross Swim Lessons since she was 18 months, as well as the Finns Swim Club since she was 6. She currently holds a level 9 Red Cross badge and hopes to be a Lifeguard one day.
