Wiped out! Broken bones... on a quad

Hi. Well, the wife and I were riding doubles on our quad yesterday, doing an average of about 27 mph, when we rode along a long downed tree. This tree had a root sticking out about three feet that our right front tire hit, causing the quad to flip on it's side, dumping me into the sand on my left shoulder, breaking the collar bone and three ribs. I lost my breath for about a minute, gasping for air. My wife was otay, did not get hurt beyound a sore back. Thank our Lord!
I did not see this tree, let alone the offending protruding root. (I was looking elsewhere that moment). Dang thing happened too fast. Our friend, and Pastor, said we crashed slow motion. It was instantly to me. Interesting how things are seen by different people.

Glad to here your ok. Never broke ribs and collar bone. That's Gotta hurt. Really glad your wifes okay you never wanna hurt anyone just riding along with you. sometimes you feel more the next day. I hope you guys wore helmets. How far from a hospital was you

Thank you Jeff and Bridget. We will indeed recover well.

We were about 15 miles down the the coast. Beautiful had to drive us back, slowly. The tiny bumps on the beach caused some pain beyond what I already was feeling. We got back about 1:30 am, went directly to the hospital.
I got x-rated soon afterwards. I now have some funky shoulder strap around my shoulders. Ribs feel some pain when I breathe. Overall, not to bad for pain. Less then I imagined

ribs aren,t fun. glad your both ok. try not to laugh or sneeze. but breath. deep. hope you are back riding and sending us those beautiful pictures. soon.

Wet x3... Thanks. I did a follow-up check at the hospital today. All is going well. Every day I thank the Lord we didn'nt get hurt worse than this.
Ky wife is going riding this weekend with our friends. She says she intends to go slower. I'm glad she is going back on the saddle again.

I must say I have broken at least 8 ribs in different motocross accidents I use to be Real crazy now I am just crazy.

And lost one very close friend/riding buddy to a collapse lung from ribs while racing, I miss him dearly.

Thanks guys. I do appreciate the comments. Speedy recovrry is indeed coming.
The wife is out riding today, with members of our church. She'sbin good hands. She says she won't go too fast and will take it easy.
We'll keep the quad. We enjoy it. Yet the Max IV is more fun.

I flipped an 07 Honda Rincon, broke all the ribs left side, punctured left lung, broke left femur which has a titanium rod from hip to knee, and broke the right side of my face which has 5 plates and 20 screws and a bunch of bone graft that was taken out of right hip to reconstruct my face, and was in a coma for 3 days and first hospital stay was 9 days in a different state, was doing less then 10 miles an hr when this happened

I guess landing in sand helped to reduce the overall damage I sustained. "Softer" than gravel, which also covers our beaches. I hope your recovery went well. Thanks for sharing.
