  • Fuel costs?

I have to admit that the steady high fuel costs have started to hurt me! It's definately put a pause on a few larger prodjects I had planed for this summer. I was planning on building a cage for the argo, and in my jeep, building a wrap around bumper, and a few other little prodjects. Is any one else feeling the burn? I find myself now questioning my plans on going out of state to ride. It's more of a pain when I take the argo towing it behind the jeep, that ends up getting me about 12MPG. That hurts at roughly $70 per tank!

I agree with you 100% the price of fuel sucks. I just cant afford to go riding now so often as i would like. Now when i go riding i usualy have quality rides over quantity.

I happen to be in the middle of a construction prodject for the business & have a 5acre lot cleared & a big retention pond to run through. It's 3 blocks from the house, but not good enugh to get my fix!

Yeah....it's definitely a bummer. And I do think twice about going long distances. I drove 3 hours each way yesterday to ride with Mudbug and Noel....but on the way home, instead of getting the sirloin burger and fries, I just got two jumbo jacks, that made me feel thrifty!

A buddy of mine built a hydrogen generator for his Cherokee...it worked well. He has a ScanGauge and he went from 20mpg to 24mpg at 60mph. He is making me one as I am going to see Meinfeld the Great in late August....

I know how you feel, it cost me 20.00 a week just to mow the lawn. Maybe goats would be a good investment. I work for a local college and we mow 111 acres of ground. During the spring growing seasons we are spending close to 1000.00 a week just to mow grass. Diesel fuel is purchased a state bid prices. I just couldn't imagine paying pump prices.

I work for a local government. There are 2800 -/+ vehicles, equipment,ect... We also have a private filling station on site, 1500+ gallons of diesel, and 1000+ gallons of gas per day. Fuel delivery comes 3 days a week! The fuel bills are insane!

              fuel prices

all of these things are hurting everyone and everything. Farmers are going to spend more planting and harvesting and the price is going to be passed right along. It's costing big trucks 80 to 90 cents a mile to pay for fuel. Prices continue to go up while the government claims there is no inflation and wants to give those who are lucky enough to get a pay raise a 2 1/2 % increase to help pay for the cost of living.Wages are not keeping pace with the cost of fuel and the cost of food. I try my best to be positive but things don't look real good. The fact that local governments are paying more for fuel is a good indication that taxes will go up! It never stops. To much to fast!

Ya fuel prices suck. I had to cancel my Ledges trip this year because of it. I have had to curtail a lot of my driving plans this year. I don't have an answer to it but I don't see conservation helping . All the oil companies will do after everyone has cut way back on fuel useage is raise the price some more and say they had to because they're not selling as much. I heat my house with propane and that has also gone thru the roof. Got to heat the homefront before anything else. Those stimulas checks should have been called "oil company profit making checks" as I bet most people used them for gas.I never thought I'd see the day when it cost $20.00+ to fill my Max. I'l get off my soapbox now.

I'll make ya feel better, Bob. 8 gallons + a dollar a gallon for lead octane booster= $40 for the argo Still good bang for the buck. But the trip to Haspin is not so cheap. Cost is easy to figure though.. whatever the price of gas is, that's what it cost in hundreds of $ Whipper will out spend me when he goes to Ledges, although I may hold a record for amphib ride travel miles. About 15,000 miles in the last 6 years.

                      Hey Roger.
Do you think with the engine mods you've made to the Argo that the fuel economy has gone up or down. Your machine runs really good. People would never know that that is basically an 18 hp only souped up. It runs circles around my Max and I've got the 18 hp in it. I guess my point is you have made it much more efficient and powerful, I was wondering if it came at an increase in fuel consumption. From the times I ridden with you at Haspin I've never seen you tip the gas can during the weekend.

P.S. I was wondering where you've been as I hadn't seen any posts from you for a few days.

Fuel consumption seems directly proportional to the degree of rotation of the twist grip. Also I lightened the weights in the drive clutch so rpm is up across the cvt range. If the cvt wasn't changed I think it could get as good/better than stock mileage.

I forgot/didn't know you got an 18, Bob. Hope to see you again.. get a couple k rims for the front, maybe? Schwab might have a couple for ya.
