  • John Deere

    Hi All
Anyone here familiar with a John Deere engine model 4276DF001? it is a 276 CI 4 cylinder engine. I am looking for head bolt torque specs and valve spring adjustment procedure , the engine is used in a grain elevator for my amish neighbor and he removed the head due to water in the oil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If he didn't find a problem with the head gasket better pull the pistons and liners. I've had several small 4 cyl deers corrode arround the bottom oring on the liners. Sorry I don't have books anymore.

Here's a component manual for the 4276D Engine, it should have what you need in there for the specs and adjustment procedure.

300 series engine component tech manual

and here's a torque spec sheet for the JD 4.5l (276CI) Powertech engine.

Oddly enough, i just looked these up for a customer that had this engine in a outdoor generator about 2 days ago. strange coincidence!

            Hi All

Thanks for the response, Unfortunatly with the AMISH they are very cheap when fixing stuff and pulling liners and pistons wont happen. He is set on replacing the head gasket. I was able to at least talk him into taking the head to a shop to get cleaned, new valve seals etc and that was hard. It is amazing that "there is never enough $$ to do it right the 1st time but always twice the $$ to do it the 2nd" If it was my engine i would buy a O/H kit and be done with it, it lasted him 25 years so he got his money worth. Heck trying to get him to spring for new head bolts is being difficult.

I really appreciate the manuals, and do you have a good website to get quality parts for this engine?

            Merry christmas
