wow! these machines seem to gain value the worse condition they are in

Just contacted a guy on CL about a Max IV in really rough condition. Needs chains, clutches, bearings, painted body. and very rusty. He didn't post a price, so I asked him how much. He quickly responded that machines in this condition were $1,500 to $2,000. I was ready to offer him about $500, but he really thinks a lot of the machine. Oh well.

Just as well. It sounds like you'd be into it for so much money by the time you were done that you may as well buy a running one.

Problem I see is people see Argo prices and think these used older machines are worth a TON !?!?!
Also Since there are not a lot of them on the every day market thy think thy are rare or something ?
Bad thing is thy will let them rust to crap and Not just give you a deal on them .

We sort of inflated the prices on here. We all probably got on here and talked about what we paid. After about 6 months of that, the guys with them in the back forty, or a relative's figured free money.

I paid 1000 for my running 94 max, needed tires and a carb kit.

But really, to make it less problematic, I replaced all the bearings and chains. By the time I was done about $2000 plus the buying price before I had a good machine, and a lot of work.

I actually found another one exactly like mine, but same condition as the one I already had when I bought it. Rough, and he's dead set on $3000 or nothing, assuming it's "rare" which they are, but find someone stupid enough to pay that for a project that big on something that old in mint condition is only worth $4000 w/o mods.

Might as well spend the money on the new and improved models, and stick that $3000 pile where the sun don't shine. Almost a year and the idiot hasn't sold it yet, and hasn't budged.

I spent good money for my StarCraft BUT Find another one !
All in all I got a good deal as it was a running driving machine. ( not the best but all there )
The funny thing I see is the older machines that are not around much are LESS than the currently produced machine out on the market ?

On the Canadian side used prices are way out of line a ton of stuff 10 to 30 years old on the market at waaay to high a price i understand that to buy new is costly but what many do not understand is that you can still buy a stripped down 8or6 at a decent price point that will take you anywhere the 20K 30K units will,what makes a 18 year old unit worth half the price, too much in my opinion and not to disrespect anyone here but i bought new in 88 a 8 I/C for the 8 k mark and 14 years ago got 4k out of it and I thought I was lucky now I see the same machine for about the same money in many adds and parts for these machines are going obsolete what gives.NCT
