  • Any Moose Hunters Here?

Not much for stories on these ones. They were kinda similar actually.
First one was on a local river called the Sikanni, I got him on the way home from a rough day of bushwacking and getting eaten alive by Mosquitoes, 2 days ago.
The second was on another local river called the Prophet. I was bringing a couple friends back downstream last evening. We noticed a stump that was not there when we came up 3hrs before. One budy bailed out of the boat and went for a look......The rest is history.

Couple of nice Bullwinkles there rock, I am going to try and shoot my moose a bit farther from the road this year so I can at least try an argo recover of one. As you can tell by my handle ("moosecaller" on my hunting forum) I do talk to them and usually get them at less than 50 paces and real close to the road.

The first one is the wifes drove the truck to it she shot it at 20 paces, the second one was 100 paces from my front step saw it wander by while having morning coffee, shot it about 10 feet off the road. And of course my argo an oldie but a goodie. I still like to take the argo out and explore getting it to recover game was a good story for the wife and made the purchase a practical one.......wink.
PS. these are moose from last year and year before still waiting for open season here got 2 LEH big bull tags for this year, been lucky with them!

            Good pics,
You will be amaized at how well an Argo hauls a moose. I made a trip out of the bush with a friend once, we had 2 whole moose in the back of the Argo.
Here is a pic of my Argo loaded up (Bison, not Moose).

I got to use my Frontier on two moose last year. The first one, I shot, was in a cut block. Hooked it up whole and dragged it closer to the road where it was easier access to clean it and load it in the truck.

The second one, my buddy shot, was on the side of the road about 500 yds from our camp. We could see our camp from the moose. I was too far to just drag in on the gravel but it was too close to break our back loading it in the truck. So we rolled the moose on a sheet of plywood we had and used it as a sleigh up to camp.

This year I'm having a small trailer built for moose recovery that will use the detachable winch on my Frontier.

I have a receiver rack I use for hauling game & other messy items that could foul the gears & chains. I bought mine from Harbor Freight. It is steel & has a 500 lb. limit. My Conquest is alot happier machine with it on the back as opposed to tossing in everything in the back & hosing out the belly of the Argo to clean her out!!

Do you have a pic? I would be interested in seeing something like that, although I'm not sure that 500lbs would be enough for me.
Also, does that put the weight all out the back of the Argo? I'm not sure that I would be able to keep my front 6 tires on the ground with that much weight hanging off the back lol.
I usually lay a tarp inside the Argo to catch any spillage, works OK, but I would still like to see your setup.

Just go to Harbor Freight.com & type in" receiver rack" in the search engine.
They offer an aluminum or steel version. They engine & myself upfront are good counter-balance for rear cargo. From seeing your moose pics, even just keeping the messy parts outside your Conquest will be a help, I'm sure!!

Well, we made it back from the mountains. First day I hit a rock and the ONE rick punctured 3 sidewalls on the one side. What the heck?? Anyway, we were able to get two new tires (800km side trip). The next day we put the tracks on an promptly burned right through the sliders. So my argo experience did not start out well. Then.......things changed.

We went about 40kms up a very remote valley. Got four bull moose. The terrain was so rough that people simply do not go in there. We have tried several times with quads but always turned around because, although you can get in there with great difficulty, bringing moose out is nearly impossible.
In fact the first moose we tried to take out by quad and it took 6 hours to go about 2 kms.

Enter the argo. We have 2500pds of moose and gear in that thing and crawled through the ugliest terrain imaginable. the worse it was, the better the argo performed. The fellas went from "I don't know about that thing...." to "I can't believe that thing!"

                          Next year it two avengers..........

Here are some pics. OH, and I got my 64 inch moose that I had tried for years to get to. Thanks argo!
