  • OLD prospectors cabin and an opium vial

While out on a trip earlier this yr, we came across an old prospectors cabin. Not sure how old it is, but it was pretty cool to find. Very small, and the roof has wasted away. The logs were all square cut, with axe marks still on them. We also found the prospectors sley, used to haul materials and supplies into the claim.
Short clip of the cabin and sley

One of the guys also found a VERY interesting object along another creek in this same area. After a little research, we found that what he had found was a Chinese "Opium Vial". Increadibly it is in MINT condition. The find raised a bit of a fuss with the "local" old timers, as they swear that the chinese were never working that particular area.
This is a pic of a similar vial, I don't have a pic of the one we found.

Finding stuff and exploring the land and critters is exactly what its all about. Well mostly. The rest is just trying to drive through the impossible without getting stuck.

That is great you ran into something like that. Must of been fun.

                Cool find!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Here's a ghost town my son and I tracked down this summer in Utah. We saw some others in AZ too but this one was completely deserted.

                      Hey PM4,

We drove just over 8,300 miles and that does not include the trip to Ledges right after we got back.

We plan on doing it again in two years.

Cool "Ghost Town", I think it would be fun to find something like that (especially if noone had been there since it was abandoned)

This cabin we found is in an area that we travel to once or twice a yr. It's about an 8 hr drive from home to get there. It's not uncommon for us to find old "square nails" in our gold pans, while digging in the gravel.

The best find, so far, was an old "Percussion Cap Muzzle Loader". Found it leaning up against a tree, with the stock berried about 18 inches in the moss. The stock fell apart when we removed it, but I managed to dig out the butplate and the screws. The gun is in bad shape, but still a neat find.
