I know that a lot of folks on this site have been working on machines for along time. Does anyone have any experience working on old Subaru cars. I have a 87 gl wagon not running and I’m trying to fix it. I live in Florida and there isn’t anyone I can find locally that can help me. There ain’t many of these cars around down here. I hear they are mostly used up north. If any might can help let me know. Thanks in advance.

I have never worked on an Subaru, but the mechanical concepts are all the same. I (and others) need to know some history:
>Known problems at the time the car quit running?
>How long has it been sitting?
>Gas or diesel (I don't know if Subaru made a diesel)?
>What has been done so far to get it to run?
>What will it do toward running? (i.e., starter will turn the engine over, it cranks and runs but runs rough, etc.)
Of course, I assume your phrase "not running" means the engine won't run.

I am familiar with Subaru's but as mentioned above check the basics.
Spark? Fuel? Find out which one you are missing.
Or will it not crank over?
I will check back in on Monday. Away for the weekend.See my photos here.

Check the crank sensor. It may be in the distributer on those old models.
If there is no crank signal to the computer you will not have spark or injectors.
Going to see if I can find where its located and will get back to you.See my photos here.

OK checked and looks like the crank sensor is integral to the distributer.
Are the terminals on the coil accessible?
If so put a test light on the ground side. Crank engine. If the light doest flash I would suspect a bad crank sensor (distributer)See my photos here.
