Jetboating vid from my Elk Hunt.

Just a little look at the upper Prophet River, around where the Minaker runs in. Lots of splits and braids in the river in that area, not a good place to get grounded on a gravel bar. As far as I know, I'm one of the only guys that jetboat up that far, most guys don't get past Tenaka Creek. Glad I have a SPOT, but still, it would probably be easier to walk out than convince someone to come help.
Clicked off a few rocks, as you will hear in the vid, but nothing worth mentioning

LOL, Really, I didn't hit many, more like "tapped" than hit. But, wow, some of those rockes would have been NASTY to hit, some of them I didn't see till the last second. As you can see, my boat "slides" quite a bit on a turn. I need to comit to decisions well in advance, and hitting big rocks when sliding sideways REALLY hurts.

I have a "Rock Free" intake to the jet, which is to say that it is resesed a little into the bottom of the boat. I also have a "Stomp Grate" on the intake, it's a set of steel bars running the length of the intake, every second one is hinged at the front of the intake. The hinged bars are welded to a plate at the back of the intake, plate runs to the back of the boat and has risers that run up either side of the jet and are conected togeather with a cross bar above the jet. When you do suck up rocks, the small ones get through the bars, but are small enough to go through the jet. The bigger ones get stuck in the grate, and the BIG ones just slide past. Stop the boat, shut off the engine, "Stomp" the grate, which drops every second bar in the intake grate, releasing any trapped rocks. Spring return on the grate, fire up and your away again
The bottom of the boat is only 6deg, so I don't need much water when I'm crusing (I can run through 3" of water for short periods). Bottom is 1/4" Aluminium "marine grade" with 11 full length stringers welded in for strength. The bottom of the boat is also covered with 1/4" of UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Plastic), Very abrasion and impact resistant, also very "Slippery" when sliding across rocks.
I have a 4 blade stainless impellor in the jet, it still gets "dinged" up, but we see more wear from runing in "silty water" than "gravel pumping" (Totally depending on how you drive your boat, and what you do when you get stuck on gravel bars, of course)
