  • Did anyone watch the V8 race from Sydney,Australia

Just wondering if any of you guys watched this car race.Nascar style road race around the Sydney Olympic site.Went over 2 days consisting of 2x250 km races.First time this track was used and was massive over here. The 2nd race was today and half the cars didn't finish through damage.I'm just curious as they claim 170 million around the world had access to this race via T.V.If it is on today I recommend you watch. This form of motor sport is huge over here with some rounds off shore in China,Dubai and Saudi Arabia who are lining up to host a round. The cars are V8 rear wheel drive 700hp local made production cars, nothing foreign allowed. We had a Nissan 4wd twin turbo win at Bathurst about 10 years ago and the driver nearly got killed by the crowd so the ruled got changed.Since then the sport has boomed.

More like the V8 drivers new that because of that last race, they now know that they were never likley to win another race, so they changed the rules to make it easer for them selves (can't beat em, change the rules).

Four wheel drives should race other 4wds offroad and I don't think a car with 4" of ground clearance would win that.Where do you draw the line, allow motorbikes? That car was a Japanese import. What's wrong with racing in it's country of origin with other similar vehicles?Broke my heart the day the Americans allowed Toyota into Nascar, little do they know we went through that 10 years ago and it nearly killed our motorsport.Sure the rules got changed but the sport is booming now and lets face it ,the average Aussie drives a locally built V8 rear wheel drive, not a small production 4wd twin turbo racer.

Perhaps if the class was left as it was the Ausi car builders may have been able to build a car that could have won. As it is at the moment the V8 racing has not changed in the last 10 years and are not realy up to the standard of the rest of the world. Check your history, the crowd was upset not at the driver wining but the way the race win was called.

All that was going to happen was most teams were going to race with 4wds the following season.1 of the teams were going to race an Audi Quatro and it would have been dominate. There is already a race for all types of vehicles 1 week before Bathurst at the same track. The production car 24 hour.Last race I know of was won by a locally built 427ci powered Holden Monaro {Pontiac GTO as the U.S. know them as}2nd was the same type of car,the only 2 in the race,1st and 2nd.They were so dominant, the 2nd car had time to change the diff and still bet the 3rd placed Porsche home. That race had cars from around the world.A Lamborghini was a threat at the start but blew up.But those 2 local cars lead from start to finish.A good race with cars from all over but no body watches. There is such little interest and it's the Australian equivalent to the 24 hour Le Mans. The local V8 format is very popular, this is what the crowd and the sponsors want. Two local makes head to head.Must be local 5 litre V8s with live axle rear ends in bodies made here all using the same tires.Call it handicapping but it is very popular and growing rapidly unlike 10 years ago.Very popular for Kiwi drivers to.You guys produce some fine drivers
