  • new 6x6 amphib electric car

The Detroit auto show is exhibiting a new 6x6 electric car. Street legal. It is supposed to be available in 6 mo. at a price of $45k. I'll post some pics as soon as I can. Here is a link that shows one pic. Kenzie on Detroit: Riding a wave of optimism | Wheels.ca

It looks like those are your own pictures. I take it you were there in person? It's a cool concept but man is it expensive! Here is another article on it: Detroit 2010: CT&T debuts three models, including Multi Amphibious Vehicle — Autoblog

I really like some of its features, but I think the moulds will be for sale on E-bay in about 5 years.

Yeh Mike, I was there. If you follow the link you gave and go to a picture of the white car with 2 models. The woman on the cars left got me in trouble with the wife......apparently I was looking. I claim ignorance. However the pictures don't do her justice!

Electric Amphibious 6x6 at the Detroit Auto Show - January 2010

            OK folks get in line.....
40mph on land and 95mph on water....that is NOT a typo!
            Dual props...YES!
The wife said something about over a dead body.....she must have been talking about something else!

Multi Amphibious Vehicle FTW! Now you're talking our language.
Seriously, can you think of anything wrong with a six-wheeled, four-passenger electric amphibious car that goes 40 mph on land and 95 mph on the water? Neither can we! Now, some of you party-pooper types might be shaking your heads and saying "95 mph on the water? No frackin' way!" But rather than face reality we'll just stick to what we get accused of – regurgitating press releases. Says 95 mph in black and white.......

The rest of the story and a lot more pictures...

The problem with an amphib is you cant do both at the finest. You can off-road great but not swim well. You can swim 95mph but not off-road so swell. Kinda like the quad ski. Pretty cool though. Expectially being electric. That has got to be a quit ride.

If that could be street legal here in Michigan that would be awesome!!!!

I merged the two threads together just to have things in one place.

Looks like the only way to go amphib with it is by using a paved boat launch for getting in and out, but one not too steep.

I don't know where the 95mph came from but the sign at the show says 10 mph. A little more believeable.

Hey Larry, it is legal here in Mi. The catch is "only on roads posted at 35mph or less" A 6x6 would fall into the same catagory but there are many hoops to jump thru. I.E. you need a horn, windshield of safety glass, wiper, washer, parking brake, proper lighting, and the big thing......DOT aproved tires. Fotunately most cops don't know the law. I just installed a SMV sign on mine, but even a tractor is not legal on the road unless you can prove you are transporting it specifically to use in farming.
