  • Ouch ouch ouch

Was out at our cabin on the weekend and a bunch of guys showed up there (Quaders), nice guys and all, but they set up a little "tent town" right in the middle of the "Airstrip" that runs behind all the cabins. Still would not have been a big deal, if they had camped at one end or the other but they set up (Litterally) in the middle of an air field. Anyway, 3 other friends decided to fly out to that "Strip" later that day. They buzzed the strip, and let it be known that they needed a little bit of room. The guys on the strip moved a bit out of the way, but one little thing went wrong. This is a tight little strip with willows encroching on both sides. One of the guys in the "Quader group" was running a Ranger (Side by Side) with a rollcage. He was in the Ranger, thinking he was far enough out of the way, but also partly hidden in the willows. First plane down is a "Super Cub" (I don't know if you have ever flown in many small "Tail Draggers" but it's very much impossible to see whats ahead of you when you are on the ground). Anyway, as you might have guessed, the Ranger was not quite far enough off the strip. The left wing tip of the SC smoked the rollcage of the Ranger (The guy that owns the Ranger was in it at the time), The impact spun the plane into the camp of Quaders......................................Thank fully no one was injured (the plane is still white, it could easily have a new coat of "red" on it), but you can probably imagine the mad scramble that took place.
The only damage was to the plane, and it may not have been to bad (Have to wait for a proper inspection) We beat the dent out of the wing, and patched it up as best we could. The plane did fly out the next day and made it to town. As long as the main "Spar" is not bent, the repair bill should be relativly small $4,000 - $8,000 should cover it

Wow! Those guys were lucky. That was not one of their smarter moves, camping in a air strip.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Maybe its just me, or common sense, but I would have moved to a completely new area that wasn't anywhere near the airfield. Glad to hear nobody got hurt and the plane was still able to fly back to town. I suppose those folks that ride 4 wheelers aren't always the brightest bunch anyways, I mean who goes and buys a 4 wheeler in the first place?
"Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

Actually it was a really CALM encounter considering the circumstances, I could hardly believe it. The pilot was quite ...............Upset?? but there was no shouting, cursing, or throwing things around.
