  • George & the tank farm

George went to a military tank show & demo today and was nice enough to invite the boys and I to join him. We spent a good share of the afternoon looking at hardware and watching the equipment and Marines show off for the crowd. It was a good time and we're glad we went. Besides, it's always a good time hangin' with George and he's a great guide to have for a tank show! Here's a few pics of the show- mostly the amphibs. There's a shot of the boys next to a Studebaker Weasel (like Joe M's) and next to a tank that really looks like a Starcraft from a distance.

Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

Great job at capturing all those amphibs Don!

I had a blast too (pun intended).

I was great seeing you and the boys again. Thanks for making the trip out to the tank farm to meet me. It was a bit strange having to stay on the other side of the fence but it was also cool seeing all the different macines at this museum.

I'll get some pictures up in a bit.

Marines showing off You must be kidding, we would never show off.

Great pictures Don i am sure you and the boys had a great day with a bunch of neat equipmnet to look at and you had a excellent tour guide.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Yeah, that would get in the way of flaunting your ego. LOL
It's all just nuts and bolts.

If I had a flamethrower like that, I'd show off too.

The tank with the barrel in the hull is a Swedish "S" Tank. It was a very innovative design in its day. It was built for defense of Sweden which has very mountainous terrain with a few roads entering the country. The main gun is limited in traverse (side to side) but the hull features unusual hydraulics which can raise & lower the body for a better shot, or to seak cover by going low. It also came in handy when bottoming out the hull. By raising the suspension the vehicle could extricate itself. I mention this suspension because there was an amphib produced in Arkansas called an "Amphibatruck." That AATV had an option to hydraulically raise & lower the suspension as well. Seemed like a neat feature, but added complexity to the machine. That's todays history lesson.
