  • Bear in the yard

So, I seem to have this need to post NON AATV related stuff on this site

    New topic is:

YouTube - Bear in the yard (Headshot)

The gate that he came in through is to the left in the vid. Guys tried yelling at him, but he would just spook for a second then come back. Eventually they resorted to throwing rocks. It's hard to see, but the last one CONECTED. He did find his way out, and never returned again that day, so it must have made at least a small impression on him (Or would that be IN him?)

NOTE: These guys could just as easilly have shot him and never thought about it again, I give them CUDO's for trying to get it to haul it's own butt away, rather than having to do it themselves.

    That was great.

Last month I came close to shooting a bear. My kids, dogs, and I were walking down a path and the dogs found a 4yrs. old bear 30 yrds from us. The bear got to with in 10Ft of us before it finally walked away. the good thing was that the dogs nor the bear made any aggressive moves. I think that was the same bear that would walk up on fishermen at the river and they would toss their fish and run away. In 8 yrs in Alaska that was the only close call that i had.

Bears like yards, I guess. This one was watching me for ? long blowing leaves. I took off the pack and turned around to grab a rake and there he was, next door to the property I was working on. He wandered up onto the porch and swiped down a bird feeder, sat under a tree and started chewing. I'd say the feeders were ~8 foot up and he didn't have to bend the posts all that far down to grab it in his mouth. I'd say he was a good size for a black bear. Also had tags in both ears.

Do the tags mean that he has been relocated before?

I'm not sure, I didn't feel like walking over and trying to read them Seriously, my guess was that he had either been moved away from people before or was for tracking him, since there's a lot of state land just north of me. He wasn't caught that day, and I heard of more sightings over then next few days.

Not to worry, I have been assured by many Tree Hugger Enviromentalist type Extremeists that wild animals like Wolves, Bears, Cougars, Coyotes, ect would NEVER hurt anyone, especially if the encounter happens in your own yard (Private Property). However, if the encounter happens in their territory, wild animals are completely justified in tearing you apart in as bloody and painfully a way as possible.
Your pics seem to indicate that you were on your own property, You would have been fine..........................

Next time there's one in my yard, I'll let one of them approach it first to test that theory.
To be fair, that bear just watched me clean up a little, but was mostly interested in it's prize. Of course when the cop showed up playing hero, tearing up right behind it, he did manage to scare it to run DIRECTLY at me.
It had about the reaction as that one your buddy nailed with a rock

                caged bear

nice video we have a bear i think takes my trash out of my trash can and drags it in the woods and picks thru it. Never makes a mess in my yard. We also have a large bobcat visiting my yard once in a while
