The 980s use a stock 50 tooth (I think it's 50...52 perhaps) sprocket. It's half the size of a frisbee. I'm just basically looking for anything lower than that. Somewhere in the 36 range would be good for the first sprocket after the T-20. This will bring me down close to a stock Max IV gearing, which has plenty of low-end grunt and plenty of top-speed. I'll have to check what the secondary sprockets are, but I'm thinking they're in the realm of 22. I'll have to check and get back with you.

I can always just cut the big sprockets off and replace them with something smaller, but if a good set is already out there, it would save me from making a commitment to sticking with them, or having to make up a whole other set.

    Thanks,
    ~m

Wow, Eddie.... That's a bunch of Hustlers!

I'd love to take a 950 project off of your hands if you weren't so far away. Do you have a spare pair of center sprocket tubes from a 950 by chance? I'd like to see how the 980 responds to a more reasonable gearing change.
