Born and bread chevy man, but I'm trying to put a 460 BBF into my 1937 Plymouth. I'm hoping there are some ford guys on here that can give me some help. Here is the deal I'm looking for a rear sump pan for a big block ford. I've found some kits but now sure what one to get. Anybody ever do this conversion (front sump to rear sump)? Part/kit numbers would be great. Am I going to need a new oil pump or just a new pickup tube? Anyway getting long winded any help would be great.

Big Block Ford
I did not put one in a car but I have put a 460 in 2 different Ford 4x4's. With those, I had to put a rear sump oil pan and pick up tube because of the front differential. I don't have a part or kit numbers but what you need is the oil pan and pick up tube from a Ford van that had a 460 in it, most common is Fords ambulance van. You can use the same oil pump, just need the rear sump pick up tube. I went to a local u-pull-it and found an old ambulance and got my parts. I don't know about your situation but I also had to get the automatic transmission kick down lever so the transmission would kick into passing gear when you stomped down on the accelarator. The one for the car 460 was too short to reach in my new application. Hope this helps!!!

two options:
1971 to 1990 econo line vans with the 460. Make sure you get the pan AND pick up. The stud that holds the pick up on would be a good idea too.
or any 80s 4x4 ford truck. again, pick up and oil pan. If you cant find it at a junk yard, just order it from your favorite parts house
Since you have it torn apart any way, may i suggest a high volume oil pump? (NOT high pressure, just high volume)
429 parts would fit but most of those are from cars, they usually are front pick up, but there could be that one "weird" one.
oh, and just so i get my whoopin on the chevy guy, if you move the oil pump, you are going to have to figure out how to get the distributor to turn as the two of them are tied together with a rod. (kind of nice to know if your oil pump dosent turn, you engine wont run.)
But back to the OP. Ford 460/429 are the same from like 1970 up till 1990. Any rear sump oil pan will be fine, so long as you get a matched pick up tube.
