  • Dodge Steering

So my crappy truck has crappy steering. I think I've done everything imaginable (but obviously left one little thing unchecked somewhere) to fix it, changed out the control arms (welded up tabs over the oval holes), changed the king pins, new ball joints everywhere, a new rebuilt steering box, bearings seem fine (no wiggle on rocking the tire back and forth), and a new steering stabalizer. I went as far as to buy the "upgrade bar" that fits onto the bottom of the pitman arm and secures that to the frame. Anyways, she still has a very annoying wonder to the point where it takes full concentration to drive the thing. A road that is rutted takes me all over the place. I also noticed when I light her up from a standstill she normally takes off in a direction not expected.. doesn't happen with braking, but does like to wander more when I punch it. I've taken it to the shops to get alignments done and a checkup on the steering - but everything comes back as normal.

After all my fixes, I decided that it was maybe in my head and it was just the normal dodge steering.. but I've driven it for a while now and I'm sure something is still loose under there. So, its in my garage with the front raised up and I just tested pushing the wheels to try to make it turn. And it turns a little bit (engine shut off).. I didn't take any measurements but it seems like an amount that would make it wander about. Now I'm no mechanic, but since the steering box is a worm gear setup, I would figure there shouldn't be any play at all?? I would love to solve this problem once an for all, any takers on what I should do next?
