I had a leatherman and broke it. I was going to send it in but didn't want to go without it so I bought another one to replace it until my old one got repaired and sent back. I never ended up turning the old one in and ended up breaking the new one. So I started using the old one for parts for the new one until I ran out of good parts. So now I had 1 with a bunch of broken/missing parts and one broken just enough to need replacing. Which also has had the nose of the pliers ground down to match the side that broke off. After all that tampering/modifications I thought I was probably screwed for repair warranty. I sent an email explaining what I did and why and they said no problem. They said normally they don't want you taking them apart but because I didn't know they would check it out. So for $5 and some change I sent them to Portland, Oregon. They must of been pretty well used because they replace both with new ones. I also got a cool bumper sticker. Isn't it cool to have an AMERICAN MADE company treat there customers so well.

Now I'm a happy camper with my leatherman back.

A few years ago, they bought all the mechanics at work a Leatherman and I thought "I'll never use that." About a year later I misplaced mine and I was lost without it. I had to buy a spare just to cope. They're a great multitool to have on your belt.

I would Probably die without a Leatherman. I litterally use mine every day, and around here they are refered to as an "Argo Drivers Toolbox". I have about a half dozen of them in various places (truck, boat, ect). ALWAYS have one in my pocket. Fantastic product, awesome warranty.
I'm extremely hard on them, have broken, bent, welded, stripped, twisted, ruined many of them, but they are always replaced free of charge when I send them back.

I actualy worked with a guy in Oregon by the name of Eric, he was a line technician at the Leather Man plant for 10 years or so. He made the knife blades. Any way, they actualy had a wall of fame at the plant of the most badly damaged ones. I guess a Line man droped his ontop of a power line transfomer and made it into a "booger". He said the owner got a twisted kick out of how his tools were destoryed. The only time they turned away a warenty job was when it was obvious somone was messing with them, aka, an indiviual was most likely buying broken ones and sending them in and reselling them. Past that, from what i have heard the guy takes it personaly when you damage a tool and wants to see it fixed asap. I need to send mine in but it is like a binky... ill start crying and not be able to go to sleep at nite.

Nice to hear of a company who holds onto the good old rules of business. I carry the electronic version which has fantastic wire strippers. I have other ones in strategic locations like 6x6 and clunker truck glove box. Definitely a big fan!

lol, no holes, just in a hurry..i always do that. sit stuff down, run around like i got A.D.D. and then try to find it again. lol Only this time i THINK i left it on the go-kart and took off without placing it in my pocket..then it fell off somewhere...dunno...but yah..i DO need to get one, cuz its worth its weight in gold! i like the looks of some of those super awesome ones, like the military spec ones, but man are they pricey!!

A couple of your stories reminded me of a leatherman accident I had. I was trying to connect an electric forklifts battery back on and it wouldnt go. I notice it was smashed and the piece of plastic in the middle of the terminals was bent. Not thinking nothing of it I grabbed my leatherman and tried to straighten it out so it would plug in. Well I arced it on both terminals and scared me so I quickly dropped it. I was still arcing so I had to kick it off. It welded itself and melted the tips pretty bad. Now the funny part. It was the Leatherman Fuse model. lol

I cant live without it. Thats why I originally bought my second one was so I would have one while the other was sent in. We have been taking 10 day vacations past 4 years in California. I bought a leatherman kick that I leave there since I cant take it on the plane.

I was first introduced to the leatherman tool early in my military service. In basic and advanced school we where told to get one by the cadre. I carried them on my LBE the entire time I was in. I used it for just about everything.. tuning the radar.. cleaning weapons.. clearing cannon jams.. even rigged it to fire a ceremonial 75mm howitzer when the trigger broke.. fixing the hummer/5-ton/duce/radios.. installing warning cans in concertina wire, to even employing mines.. Was the best tool never issued, that should have been.

                      Dan67,

Brings back memories....I got my first leatherman in the canadian forces and used it for many purposes similar to what you used yours for....When I retired it was one tool that I some lost and never returned to the stores section.....now I have one for my personal use...the canadian military went to the gerber knife after....very similar to the leatherman....
