  • Anybody into radio controled car, trucks, planes, helis or boats?

I'm an avid RC junkie....I own a couple monster trucks, a short course truck, couple on road cars, a rock crawler and a micro heli...some electric some gas....was wondering if anybody else messes with them....

I used to really big into rc but I have slacked off tor the last few years. I raced on road ,off road carpet and even a little drag racing. The last machines I bought were my rock crawlers but I think I only drove them a few times. I tried nitro for a while but that was not for me. I had boats but hated to swim after them when they broke down. I have boxes of stuff, maybe I should list them on eBay and save the money for a Argo.
My collection: 2) attexes, 1) super swamp fox

My son Jason is sponsored by AE, Reedy and is a Factory Team driver for Novak. His next big race will be the JConcepts Spring Nationals at HobbyPlex in Omaha on Memorial day weekend. Here is a link to the video I had made a little over a year ago before he accepted any sponsorship offers. Jason Hills R/C Racing at S&N's Trackside 3-12-11 - YouTube

I was sponsored back in the late 80's (now I'm dating myself lol) I had a good time back then but college took up a lot of my time so I had backed off for a bit....then I got engaged....then married....then kids...yadda, yadda....got back into racing for fun a few years ago...now I'm the "creepy old dude"....lol

Associated sponsorships are hard to get...I was sponsored by Tekin way back....then they went out of business and recently made a comeback....that's cool your boy does so well....my 2 boys never had the interest...they just liked to back yard bash...lol

Both of my crawlers are scorpions,I don't think you can go wrong with one. A lot of my stuff is old tamiya: clods, bruisers, blackfoots, frogs, grasshoppers, jugge rnauts, txt, and I even have a king hauler semi with the trailer. I think I still might have a tamiya leopard tank. I first started with a rc-10, you know the old gold chassis ones, I have a ton of parts for them.

I should count someday how many I have but I better not.

Jason was bit by the RC bug by Traxxas at a full size off road race when he was 7. He saw the Slashes being demonstrated and begged to have one then begged to race. I think there is a YouTube video of him winning the Rally Car class at the TCS race at Trackside in Milwaukee when he was 8. He keeps me busy as I am not really an RC dad. Fortunately the Team gives us a lot of setup help.

That's a good deal...I know I enjoy tinkering with them...and racing is still fun....actually more so now because I'm not really competing, just having fun, and sharing the knowlage I've gained over the years...it's not an inexpensive hobby when you start racing...lol

The gold RC10 was one of the first cars I ever raced....I love the darn thing...built like a brick...lol, I got into 1/5 scale for a bit....but that was a bit expensive...lol....I mainly race the micro's on carpet, the 12th scale and bash with my Savage....I also have a Traxxas Summit and that thing is an animal too....even bone stock..it will pull just about anything and has lockers front and rear!

Jason races 1/8 Ebuggy and ETruggy, 10th scale 2wd buggy, Stadium truck, SCT, 4x4SCT and 10th onroad sedan. His big race this year will be the ROAR E offroad SuperNationals in CA. 2 weeks in August. We are home for three days then to Joliet for the ROAR Paved onroad 10th scale electric nationals. It will be a busy month. All in all far cheaper than full size racing is the way I look at it. Everything is relative though I guess.

I used to have an all aluminum chassis 3.3r powered tmaxx. Wicked fun but I couldn't keep the front tires on the ground after I built it with the second motor. Had a couple of revo's to and a helicopter.

I've always wanted to get into the Boats and Helicopters, not really interested in electric ones. There is NOBODY around here that has anything like that though (would be nice to try it out before making that kind of investment)
I would really, really like to try a gas/nitro RC Jetboat, I even ordered on once, but the vendor I went with never did get them in. Would be cool to chase a RC Jetboat up the river with my real Jetboat, lol.

Any of you guys have an RC Jetboat? I would love to ask you a few questions.

The 3.3 in the Tmaxx is a wheelie machine for sure. The Revos seem to be a little more manageable. They all are big fun though and pretty durable.

Don't know about RC Jet Boats but I just finished this engine for a 22 ft Jet boat designed to carry 4 people and a cooler of beer comfortably at 115 MPH.
