My dad has this machine sitting at his house (greensburg, PA) torn apart but, some kind of event should get him to speed things up and get it back together.

VERY NICE! What kind of speeds did those springers hit on the track? What kind of motor were they powered by?

I know my uncles/dad's springer has a Sachs. I've heard my dad claim 80mph but, not sure how serious he was. Whipper, If you drive 2000 miles to race, I may have to buy a spot on your trailer - along w/ your services for getting my machine in shape..... I am rather limited out here w/ no welding experience, power tools and a rented storage space (I've never even changed an axle - not that I couldn't do it ).

O.K. Guys. Here's the scoop. I spoke w/ Bud Fischer Jr yesterday. The track in Ashtabula is still available for racing. They stopped racing 6 wheelers, because people stopped showing up to race. Bud Jr was around 17 years old & he told me he remembers standing next to the ramps when I jumped the cars like it was yesterday. He said for the past 20 years the big Scrambler trailer has been parked w/ all the Scramblers still locked away in it. The Fischers still own the rights to the NATVA name & can start it up again @ anytime, if there was some interest. The track is pretty much the same as it was. They put some banks in some turns, but that's pretty much it. They host some National quad races. I talked to him about maybe a Nostalgia race for 6 wheelers. He seemed receptive to the idea. By planning in advance, it could be quite a Blast from the Past & give you young guys a chance to experience it instead of wondering what it was like. Maybe Administrator Mike could post an interest sign up list. Even if it's just a once a year event, I'm sure they would want to know how many people are really serious about it. It would take more that 10 people. I told him how many of you guys showed up @ the Ledges. He was surprised. He didn't know that so many of you have been doing that each year. They also host Quad races @ the Ledges and there's a possibility that that track could be available, also. He asked who organized the Ledges event, but I wasn't sure. So, do I shop for a giant Toy Hauler or not? It's up to all of you. According to Bud Jr, Bud Sr is 82 & still hangs out @ the track almost every chance he gets. So, we have a year to show them there's still an interest by your response. Even Bud Jr said he would drag his old Springer out of the trailer & get it ready. I guess he misses it , too. Here's one more look @ the track.

I'm there. If we can field a junior race, I know a couple young racers that will also be interested.

Man, I'd love to get my son in on this but that kid I saw last weekend would be pretty intimidating.

If you are serious about going, then post in this thread: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/6x6-a...n-up-list.html

That will keep all the "I'm going" posts there and keep this thread solely for discussion. Hopefully that other thread will grow very large!

                        Number of cars

Thought about it & it also might be more helpful to know how many cars anyone might bring. I all ready edited my sign up post to reflect how many cars I would bring. Jerseybigfoot, we'll need a class over 50. You're not alone. Heck, I'm in that class, Bridget's in that class. Bud Fischer Jr said he was 51. So there's 4 all ready. We'd like to really make sure that we could get a junior class if we have to drag kids from the stands & let them drive our cars.

I edited my post to reflect two machines as well. The D/stock should do well in its' class, but if the 503 has to run in M/C, I'll likely get trounced by anyone really serious. I doubt we'd have enough turn out to have enough machines to run each and every class, but if so, perhaps I'd slip a Chap in the R for a while?

Uh oh... I think she heard me....

P.S., I won't mention names, because he's away from the computer to be able to defend himself immediately, but there's one more addition to the over 50 class..... His initials are "McKay Pilot"...

Hey Mike, how much different are the motor mounts on a 503 compared to a Chap? Didnt you or Don have a copy of the different classes and all the rules and what not? If so, could you post that up or give a link so we can see exactly what class our machines would be in? Thanks.

My dad would be down for the 50+ class. So how many other springers will there be?

This is going to get me a divorce. I have another Scrambler that can be raced. I was going to restore it as it was in fairly good condition. It's a factory 340 2 stroke. Talk about nostalgia, this is original down to the tires. It wouldn't take much to get this machine in racing condition.
That make one 4 stroke and two 2 stroke machines. I will need the winter to get the two Scramblers back together.
Jim Cheney has a Springer in south Jersey I don't know if it runs or if he is willing to race it.
I will post the photos later.
