Why wouldn't someone want to put insurance on their machine? I put insurance on mine for $75 a year. That was liability and an almost useless (but only $7) comprehensive package that has a machine value of almost nothing with a high deductible.

I checked out SOR website and found this on contact us page... "If you are contacting SOR about our ATV Events we are sorry to inform you that unfortunately there will not be any ATV events this year. Southington Offroad can no longer offset the cost of the ATV events with the increase cost of insurance. We are not the only park to have this problem throughout the country."

There are actually many good reasons why people don't insure their machines. Many people, I actually think most people on here don't insure their machines and that's why the turnout at an event trying to attract AATVs wouldn't have a good turnout. When you have 3, 4, 5, or a number of machines in the double digits, like a few of us crazies out there, there's no point in spending $75 per machine to insure them. Also, many, many people have vintage machines and the hassle of trying to explain to an insurance company what an old Hustler or Attex is just isn't worth the headache. Also, there are those of us don't ride places where you need insurance. All the AATV parks that I've been to never required you to have insurance and pretty much all of the AATVs there weren't insured. You can see how other members have the same outlook about this affecting attendance. If you want to spend that money on insurance for your machine, that's fine and it's totally your call, it's just that most folks don't and that's how it is.

Thanks for the heads up,toni5091. This is unfortunate. I generally attended 4-6 rides per summer with one of the local quad clubs that frequent(ed) SOR. It's less than an hour from home and with 1400 acres was a nice place to go. I wish them all the best in opening the park back up to us "little guy's". I posted a question on the local quad site and this is the reply I received from one of the Officers,

"Yes this is correct. At this time they will not be doing any ATV weekends. I believe they are in the process of looking at some avenues that may allow this in the future but at this time they are no longer allowing ATV weekends to continue. We will keep information up to date should we find out of any changes."

Maybe I can help explain the problem with AATV registration and insurance requirements.. IN South Carolina, ATV are not registered nor required to be ensured. So for PA ride. I would have to registrar my aatv in PA as out of state and get insurance. Since my Hustler is a complete rebuild out of an existing older hustler without any serial number or VIN number assigned. I would have to go through the hassle of getting a PA vin number assigned even before I can apply for a registration.. Completely not even remotely worth the hassle for a 4 day weekend ride.

Those are fair reasons. I barely have a place to ride without having insurance of some sort just so I can show a cop there is insurance on it. I did have to go through a bit of heart ache to get it insured. Registration is still a joke as I can't convince the NYS DMV that it isn't a boat.

I used to live in SC and when I moved I sold my trailer because it was home made and had no registration. It wasn't worth the effort to try to register it elsewhere.

This is what we though to! And we did and they check your insurance.

For Jim's question about a Pennsylvania requirement, the answer is "sometimes" yes. To ride on the state owned ATV trails, you need registration (AATVs are a Class II ATV and limited to a few trails that are designated Class II allowed) and insurance. Having that also lets you operate on the roads during a declared state of emergency. Under the law, ATVs do not need registration/insurance if operated on private property, but there's no reason property owners can't require it in order to give permission to ride on their land. I'm sure they want to protect themselves in the event of injury.
