I just received the " annual Spring Ride " video in the mail today , from John Schwab. I,m half way through it and its great ! Lots of outstanding amphib video footage of 6x6,s and 8x8,s in action , plus some great video of the Mud Ox too ! Roger , you are one heck of a driver ! You and your 8x8 Responce , make the hard stuff look easy . With some Frontier tires ,,you,d make the rest of us look even worse .
That was a fun ride, but definitely not for every one. The weather was a tad bit cold at times and just the thought of having a break down out there was something always on my mind. Getting stuck is just part of the terrain. I managed to get stuck at least twice in some peanut butter mud. Once was instant stuck and the other I worked myself into it. Its nice to ride with a group of people that are willing and ready to pull someone out when they need it. We had very few mechanical issues, but I know I spent 2 weeks going over every inch of my machine to insure a good ride. The new K-rims performed awesome. I was able to reduce the pressure to 1 -2 lbs and the traction was great and the ride was much better than it ever was.
If you look at the first video of my machine, you can see the left side headlight and upper body had no snow on it. That was my heater at work! It melted snow, but without windows, it was not quite toasty. Better than no heat for sure.
I didn't get the whole video yet, but the checks in the mail and I'll get to relive the whole thing all over again.
I wish I could have went, but my old tires would have been a joke. I started going to Haspin in 1977. I get my new Frontier tires look out LOL. I had to plow snow any how, but it sure looked like fun . Maybe next time, I'll go down on Thur. set up camp and play Fri,Sat,Sun.. Cougar
I received my DVD yesterday and I have been really enjoying the memories. Definitely a good comparison video to show how the different machines perform on tires in the snow. I am still quite impressed how my machine performed. Watching the video helps me compare my driving compared to how others drove on the same terrain. I can see I have a very light throttle touch whereas I try to keep wheel spin and digging to a minimum and other have a more aggressive approach. I'm not sure which one is better.
The trail boss who led the ride had the hardest time. Once the trail was cut, the rest of the group didn't have much of a problem. The leader tries to pick the best route, but with that much snow , there's a lot of unseen obstacles.
The dvd shows a lot that we miss from our position in the "wagon train" as the ride happened. Or the Sat morning ride I missed 'cause I wasn't ready and had a leisurly breakfast and did maintanance. I wish I'd had a hands free helmet cam on the Sat nite ride! I was in the back and all you guys were up ahead, headlights on snow lit everything up really well, and we were flying fast on some open trail! I kept wanting to grab the camcorder but didn't have a third hand. Guess I needed the handlebar steering.
It is interesting to watch all the driving styles. The frontier tires and wheels are so light, they are easy to spin, for the guys who like to twist the throttle. Gas 'n Go! is the battle cry. When I think I've seen it all, I'll go to T-20 101 class, and watch the max drivers move the sticks. Lance, I owe ya a few beers. One plus about the weekend, we didn't have to buy ice, the world was our refridgerator

liflod ,
It was nice to see a Max IV in the mix for a change . Most of the video,s I,ve watched that John Schwab sells , have only two Argo 6x6,s , two 8x8,s , and one or two Max II,s . The Max IV,s hardly ever show up for this ride ? I thought you made a good showing of your Max IV , as it climbed that snow covered hill . I own a Max IV myself,,so as I watched the DVD play , I was cheering you on ! Go Max IV go !
I think Lance enjoyed himself. K locks and a heater had to be nice. I know the max guys would like to see more IV's. Schwab's Ledges videos probably have them? The Deepwater, Mo rides used to have lots of IV's in the mix. We need to get that group back together. Brandon, there's supposedly some off roading in Seymor, know anything about it?

Got my DVD the other day. Thanks John. Finally got to watch it. What a great video. I was impressed how well everyone did considering the weather conditions & the terrain. Roger, we love the sound of your motor. Bridget was especially fond of your hat, also. Matt's Mudd-OX looked like a real powerhouse. There was so much going on at once, I don't know how John keeps track of each of you. Nice turnout. We'd love to ride with you all of you sometime. Call us when it hits 80 degrees.
Great video clip Roger . I ordered this DVD from John , and its full of great amphibious action . Thanks for posting that video clip . I thought the sound track you picked fit too .
I would like it if there was another Max IV in the mix so I can compare my machine/abilities to another.
There's times I wish I had a Max II, there's times I wish I had a Frontier or Avenger. There's never a time I wish I didn't have my Max IV. It suites me well.

I,ve seen those video,s you are referring to Roger , and to me, those rides are a lot tammer than the Haspin acreas ride . The Haspin acreas ride is a lot more challenging , and not preferred by the majority of amphib riders and their families .
Hey Roger- I was intrigued by your choice of surf music in your clip, quite a juxtaposition from was is on the screen! Kind of gave me a warm fuzzy feeling , or perhaps that is the frostbite healing. We all had a fantastic time at Haspin, and Lance hit it on the head when he commented about what a great group of fellow riders we have. I spent most of the weekend being leader (trail boss we call it) so I spent a lot of time in various predicaments hidden under the snow. Everyone had a turn extracting me at some point. Very little of that makes the video since I have the camera. This particular video is almost two hours long.
Hard to tell what will come out of my speakers, huh John. Surf music was off season, but it was a new song I was facsinated with, and upbeat. I thought about Frank Zappa's "Yellow Snow".
That is Junior Brown playing.
If you liked that tune at all, go to YouTube and type his name in.
