  • My trails are Disappearing!

    Well,

I assume that most people have alread encountered this, but they are closing the National Forest in my area down to ATV or OHV's as they call them. OHV's will be allow in only specific areas. There is only one area where I live that we are permitted, and it sucks.........

It came across a new park called the Florida Motoplex. I will be visiting this weekend.

Here is the link: Florida ATV - Welcome to the official home of the Motoplex

I will let you guy's know how it is.

I do not understand their reasoning but ..

They do not allow AATVs in a lot of places even on ATV trails .
What I think is a big joke is they allow snowmobiles in the winter to go on the public roads in my area . I have nothing against them allowing snowmobiles but an AATV is a million times safer then a sled with far greater control.

Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

        ATV's On Roads

Many villages, townships and counties in my state allow year round use of 4 wheeler atv's on designated roads within their political boundaries. Our machines are not allowed because they are not defined as atv's by the state. Snowmobiles are allowed on the roadway ditchline and shoulders. Ours are not. Our machines are not allowed on any state or county atv or snowmobile trail and in fact, we cannot register them as an atv.

I believe that one of the reasons why 6x6 and 8x8 machines are not that popular in my state is because of the restrictions on where they can be used. There are a lot of our type of machines here but most are used for ice fishing and hunting. During the warm climate months, you rarely see them any where. Next door in MN, aatv's have to be registered and they are allowed on most trails. I can't ride in MN because mine can't registered in my home state and I can't register mine in MN because I don't reside there.

I used to build and "rod" off road Jeeps in the late 60's - early 80's. There is no place left to run them except on private land and a couple of off road parks that are far away. I still have Jeeps and use them on my own land or private land that I have access to. If I did not have use of private lands to drive and hunt on, I doubt that I would still have a Jeep, let alone have my Max.

We lost the National Forest trails many years ago. I used to have several places to trout fish in the NF that were just too far to walk to and I could drive on the abandoned logging roads to get to my spots. Now you either walk in or ride your horse. Trouble is most of these places are to deep in the woods to be practical to walk and riding a horse is fine except there is no place to park the horse trailer and tow rig either.

Beeman and I are from around Calgary and it does not seem that they have a seperate class for us,but they have been implementing weight restrictions of less then 800lbs. I'm not worried with my own, but beeman's will definatly not be less then 800lbs. Its a never ending battle here though to keep our recreation lands open, and for the most part we are not winning.

In Michigan our rigs have to be less than 50" wide. My Terra Tiger is 54" wide so as it sits it can't be registered as an ATV, but is an ORV!?

                State All-Terrain Vehicle Requirements 2008

Check out the link for your state requirements. Most of the ORV's are limited by both width and weight. The Hoot ETV at 49" and 675 lbs, may be an alternative, please excuse the plug. http://www.atvsafety.org/InfoSheets/...t-StateReq.pdf
