We were at big and nasty today, I never got my but kicked like I did today, I got home, took a shower and now I can't really move... Lol... We had a great time and I really hope the videos come out good. The duro Woolley booger style tire I've been complaining about performed excellent in the nasty mud.. But don't swim we'll. think I'm gonna try 14"vendettas, Matt, if your watching come to Busco and bring some tires... Norm....

Norm, I got some excellent video and I am processing about 25 minutes of the best stuff right now. I had over an hour of good video but trimmed it. To any one who has never been to the big Nasty-you are not going to believe the mud we moved these machines through today. Over all a very impressive performance by every machine with each machine shining in certain areas. I can't wait to see Norms MaxIV shod with 14 inch Vendettas, it is going to be unstoppable.

Some video of the Big Nasty Trail ride

It was a punishing day at Big Nasty. We managed to take our machines shod with tires into some of the worst areas at the Big Nasty but man did we have to pay the price. The day started with Karen breaking her shifter and losing the ability to go into reverse. Norm started down a bad mud land and then realized he had forgotten to install his drain plugs. My shifter was giving me problems going into reverse. With all these issues Karen put on a show with the MaxIV without ever shifting into reverse but it caused us some heart ache, winching and other work in the swamp areas. None the less we had a great time in mud areas as bad as any I have seen.

I ran the Vendettas with about 5 pounds of air and as can be expected the water speed picked up. My guess is 3 plus MPH and since I had a MaxIV shod with Terra tires I had another machine to compare my water speed with. In the mud and swamp the Vendettas performed very well making it through every bad mud area we could find (some times with a lot of extra work). Norm plans to buy a set of the 14 inch Vendettas for his machine and it should excellent for the mud a swamp conditions at Big Nasty. The 14" tires Vendettas will allow Norm to go down the narrow mud lanes with getting wedged in the sides.

The Vendettas really did shine in soft mud with very little water where they just keep moving regardless of the conditions. I would like to thank Norm, Karen, Fred and Derek for a great day with many fond memories.

Awesome video Dan! I'm really glad that you finally got some other anphibs to follow you into the really challenging areas of Big Nasty. That's where I had the most fun when I went there with you and Lee. The video angles in this Big Nasty video were outstanding. Thanks for uploading this long YouTube video. I REALLY enjoyed it! Two big thumbs up for the camera man too!

My fault guys, I accidently posted on the wrong thread. Sorry for the temporary hijack! Here is my post from that thread:

Let me go on the record and say," I HAVE NEVER BEEN AS CHALLENGED ON A RIDE BEFORE LIKE WHAT WE ENDURED YESTERDAY!" We hit the swamp that had green moss growing on top, obvious that "NO ONE" ever traveled that path. I'm especially proud of my wife, Karen (kjmaxiv), in the green Max IV,, I never thought that she would perform at such a level so quick!! She felt so comfortable with the built briggs, and suspension seat. It was a great ride, with no second guessing whelther we should take a trail or not, we just did it!!!! It was great!!

Fred, do you miss the roll bars on the hustler? they do make for easier rocking when stuck.

I thought about taking off the roll bar on my Max IV one time, because some times on a trail I couldn't take the same line as my friend because of a low handing limb or leaning tree that always hung up on the roll bar. I decided to keep the roll bar on though, because of the times when I got really stuck in some soft mud and I could always use my roll bar for extra leverage to get my Max IV unstuck. This extra leverage didn't work all of the time, but most of the time it did.

Hey Cory, I was really looking forward to seeing your MaxII with the the Hopped up Briggs and the 25" Dirt Devils on 9 inch rims. I am still trying to decide whether your MaxII or Noel's Kohler equipped MaxII with the 25 inch mud Bugs is King in the mud. I was hoping this trip would help me decide. I have seen Noel take his MaxII where I thought no machine with wheels could go. I also remember you taking charge of every difficult mud hole you could find at Busco.
Now the decision will have to wait for another day.

I really wanted to comment about Karen's MaxIV, her driving, the Terra tires and that hopped up Briggs engine. Any one with a MaxIV with the Briggs engine who is considering adding some horse power to their engine should take a look at the video.

That Briggs engine in the MaxIV combined with the Terra tires and and Karen's driving just rocked.

I have never seen a MaxIV with enough power to sling swamp mud like that. That extra power kept those tires turning and slinging that swamp mud and moving that Max forward. I never realized just how effective extra horse power was. While I was next to Karen's Machine when she hit the gas and literally flung swamp mud in every direction! I have never seen Terra tires clean out like that!

That sound of that engine echoing through the swamp was just awesome!!!!!

Over all I was really impressed with her, her driving and that machine! I can't wait to see what she can do when she actually has a reverse gear.

                              Oh & you guys...you did O.K., too.

Ms. Bridget,,,, my fault,,, Bridget, lol!!,,, Karen was so happy when I read your comment to her. I told her that you two had some "Girl-Power" going on there, and she smilied and said, "Oh Yeah, us Girls have to stick together, I really like Bridget!". My response, "Oh boy,, what have I done!" It's hard enough to keep her out of Lowes, now she always want to ride. I have to be the luckiest man ever!! School and work has her busy and she is experiencing login issues to the site (I think she would just rather me to comment, but she says she's too busy), so I'm commenting for her.

Dan, Cory and I have really put in some work and used alot of elbow grease on his and Karen's engine. As an "Amueture-Expert Shade-tree Mechanic", I really appreciate your kind statements. I will be fixing her shifter this afternoon, and I think I will try to fabricate some "EASY-SHIFTERS" for her MaxIV that will be similar to that of a Hustler before Busco. Karen really makes me proud. She has seemed to transform overnight, driving more and more confident with each ride. I was joking with her that told her that the reason why she is driving so well, is because I built her machine, and she just gave me the faces! LOL!! It is surely a joy to me to share the same passion with my wife. I am truly a lucky man.

Yeah, I do! I believe I will be putting the cage back on before Busco. I just love the look of the Hustler in its natural-uncaged form, but the cage has its advantages and is very practical to my driving. Besides, when I put it back on, I won't have to worry about hearing Karen tell me that I'm driving like a NUTT, as often! So yeah, it's going back on!! Safety first!
