New projects

Hello world, didn't know best place to start this so i figured here is good.

Tell us about your new projects or current machines rebuilds so we know what to expect and look for on the trails in 2019.

Do you expect to make any events you have been missing or always wanted to attend?
I , for one , will be very busy between camping and racing. Good thing the wife still loves me.

I just put the Camel Centipede in the garage. I will be starting it very shortly. I hope to have a Ruppster ready for Pine Lake too.

By the way, does anyone know what size the tires were on the Camel originally? I can't find anything in the literature.

I'm on the planning side of a low end project that I hope to have done by 2020. It will be a light steel bodied machine, powered by a 10hp Honda gy6 clone motor and cvt transaxle (not a t20). Its more of a one person styled machine but will have a ride on atv type seat on a spring that can support two people for a short trip. Fully amphibious, but plan on using low end wheels and tires with some sort of a track system that can be easily adjusted. Steering will be true brake steer with large automotive brakes.
The goal is to build something that is easy to replace parts on and to service without an act of congress. If designed right, service will be minimal anyway.

i know that has been on a list or 2 before, be nice to see one run around.
While one pic looks like BFGs that i believe were 65 inch tires the rest look like Firestones, i say 21's would be closest to correct.

That should be an intersting "Hoot ish" build, looking forward to seeing the outcome.

We haven't heard much of your previous build, how has that been performing?

i have been reworking my tracks to fit 25 '' tires i'm now running on the max 2 highboy . the grousers were too narrow for the tires and i made them to run as full tracks . will be ready for our first good snow and busco in april. noels project sounds really cool. johnboy va.

The previous builds are doing great. The larger of the machines is just too big though, anyone who has driven something like a Swamp Fox can relate, and the big machine is even wider than that.
The smaller machine is fast and maneuverable. Its as agile as a Max4 but with a better weight distribution.

I've been working a lot of hours on the job front and have not been able to get much ride time in the last few months. I hope 2019 will not be as demanding.

Well Jim I just got done with a g50b overhaul so now to gut out this green 79 superchief and blast and paint the frame and put all new bearings in it. Prolly just gonna keep it original seeing the engine seems to run very well. And when it’s done I have no clue what I’ll do with it. Lol.
You have any big projects goin on for a pine lake surprise??

Well I have a couple of projects , just need to take a week or 2 and decide which ones I'll attack. I prefer to do them once so a little thought will have to go into which one(s) will be completed. As far as surprises I think I've only had 3 machines to Busco more than once since 2011, same with Pine Lake and one of them has showed up in 3-6configurations ( I can't recall) and it's still a Turd.

I have also been talking about a Modified racer for a couple of years now. I would love to fit that in somewhere.

This week I started the resurrection of my Superchief racer for the 50th anniversary events. It's now or never. She was always a good machine, but the engine blew up a few years ago. It's been rebuilt and waiting on the shelf. Since the engine was already out, I decided I wasn't putting it back together until the machine was "right." My main concern was fixing the frame. It was pretty tweaked from all the massive jumps (I think Hamlin was a root cause). Here we are a few years later, I finally pulled and reinforced the frame. Today I repainted everything with the paint gun. Now it's time to put that new lower and NOS upper body to good use!

I'm excited to finally have a factory, non-headlight body on the track.
