Does anyone know of a group that gathers in Wisconsin or Northern Illinois? I am near Milwaukee and would like to know where people ride in the area if there is someplace. I pretty much just stay on my own property now but would like to find some new places to explore.

Riders in Wisconsin?

Basically we (in Wisconsin) are bound to private land because Wisconsin has some goofy rules about AATV's. For one, we are not allowed to ride on state trails. Nor can we ride on State parks. All based on "The defiinition" of ATV. Back when 6x6's wer pretty much all that was out there for off-road recreation, everyone called them ATV's. Since the three-wheelers (Now also outlawed on state trails/parks AND in general) and quads, they redefined everything and renamed our 6x6's "AATV's". Here is a link to the Wis DNR sight where you can read the regs for ATV's. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/es/en...010ATVRegs.pdf In short, we don't qualify as ATV's cause we can't "Stradle" the vehicle, and we exceed the dimensions as defined in the regs. I personally think we should be grandfathered because as I said before, 6x6's were around before the 3-wheelers and quads. I tried to get into Bong rec area a few years back and was denied, which sparked off my search as to why. The link I posted and state (DNR) people I talked to pretty much drove the nail in the coffin on this. Sucks. Now local municipalities may have different rules on public land useage, but they usually mimic the DNR/State garbage. Check with your local cops and park managers.
I forgot to mentionthis. By the guidelines of the atv regs, 6x6's do not have to be registered in Wisconsin. I am not the law on this, so act as you see fit. Since 6x6's are not classified as ATV's and there are no state regs for AATV's specifically, we are orphans. Some of the rules restrict us, yet other rules can't be applied to us as we don't meet the criteria for those rules. Kind of a double-edged sword. It's all just nuts and bolts.
