  • Max will not start...PLEASE HELP

Ok, I have a 2005 Max IV with a 20hp Kholar Magnum Model M205 engine.
I ran it last year without a problem during hunting season. I decided to sell it this year and went to crank it and nothing. I bought a new battery and turned the key and all I got was a clicking sound. I tested the solenoid and it would not go above 6 volts when I turned the key. I bought a new solenoid and I got the same result...clicking and the voltage output was still 6 volts.
I jumped the solenoid and the starter just spins...it does not attempt to crank.
All ground wires are good and the battery is fully charged.
    Any ideas?

Sounds like the bendix is possibly stuck, probably from dirt, grease, gunk, sitting, etc. Pull the starter off and clean it. Then test it on the workbench. If everything is fine there, double check the charge on your new battery.

before you pull the starter sometimes you can just give it a few taps (2 to 3) on the side and it will loosen it up enough to get it to kick out like it should. thats just a quick way I try and sometimes get results.

I"m betting your battery is dead, 6 volts isn't enough to spin the starter fast enough to throw out the bendix. I know you said it was a new battery, but maybe it needs a good charge ,or it has a bad cell. Try a different battery. And it isn't a good idea to tap on the side of the starter. There are magnets glued inside of the case, tapping on the case will either crack the magnet or break the magnet loose from the case, then you will need a new starter.

I would have to guess battery. I had the same thing last weekend. After cleaning all the connections and nothing, the 1 year old battery was shot. Put in a new one and we're back in business.
