  • Another Kawasaki question.

When in nuetral, when I release the throtle it back fires through the exhaust. I do have a fuel smell, I thinking I'm running rich and need to lean out the mixture. It's been sitting for about three or four months. I don't remember this happening before. I'm also thinking it could be timing or a bad plug.

    Thoughts anyone?

Or bad gas, valves out of adjustment or an exhaust leak
Is the exhaust modified or stock.

Stock exhaust. I just adjusted the fuel mixture, and cleaned the plugs. I noticed the plug wire didnt seem to fit snugly on the plug, so i bent the connecter in the cap. It seems to have helped, the fuel mixture seemed out of whack. It's a 94 conquest, 260 hours, I dont hear a exhaust leak, but I'll inspect it anyway, could be.

In the sping i did all the service, air filter, plugs, valve adjustment, oil, filter, transmission oil, lubed all the chains and grease fittings, inspected and adjusted the chains, lubed the cluch assembly. It runs really well, just noticed this back fire thing, probably need to be run and really warmed up good.

Yes run a tank of good fuel thru it and see if it improves.
An additive like seafoam might help clean the fuel system too.

Change the plugs and throw in a can of seafoam in the fuel tank and then drive the shjt out of it.
