  • 1970's Argo 8 x 8 Rebuild G440B Chaparral

I am doing some work on a chaparral 440 with electric start twin cylinder single carb. I have a few problem to sort out before I am enjoying my new Argo. Any help is great

No fuel pressure; No pulse on the vacuum line running from the bottom of the engine. I ordered a replacement mikuni square fuel pump.

Carb mismatch; It is a mikuni carb. I am not sure if it's the correct size for the engine, or what jet size should be used?

Poor Spark; Ordered a new CID box but was unable to get a coil is there a interchangeable coil?

What is the size of a replacement drive belt?

Your coil should inner change with a 1978 artic cat panther. Replace your pulse line, it could be cracked. It used to have a tolotson, everyone swaps out to mikunis. This is actualy an upgrade, stick with it. Google search how to identafy a mukuni carb, and then start looking up jetting for a 440. that will get you close. good luck, and let us know how you procede

As far as the lack of pulse for the fuel pump, along with what spookum said i would check the crank seals on the engine. If the outer seals are bad you will risk running the engine very lean causing engine failure. If the center seal is bad the two cylinders will constantly equalize each others pressures and cause poor engine performane if it will even run. Both of these issues will cause insufiant pulse pressure to operate the fuel pump. Hope this helps

The way you test for a leaky crank seal, is on the side nearest to the clutch, with the engine running, spray eather down betewen the cluthc and the engine block. if there is a leak, the motor will injest the eather and RMP will pick up. You should be able to hear the RPM change (make sure the trans is in neutral)

Well after getting a new carb I am in action, now I need to figure out what size of belt I need. Anyone know the replacement size?
