Hello. I have a Kohler K295-1T 2 cycle I'm thinking about getting running. It needs crank bearings and maybe other stuff as well. Is it worth the effort and where would I find parts.

Google GPI or Growth Products inc. They are in Michigan. I ordered all my parts for my 400 Kohler. They bought the rights for the 2 stroke line in the seventies. If they cant help you, chances are, no one can but if its only bearings you need, you can just take the old ones to a shop and they may be able to size them up for you. GPI were wonderful people to deal with. Let me know if I can be of more help.

Hi teeko. Thanks for the info. Engine was last running 18 years ago but turns free and is complete minus carb. My friend Mike and I recently joined 6x6 World and I'm trying to get some old stuff going on a tight budget. He is looking for an AATV now. I like 4 cycle engines but I have to work with what I have for now. May be that this is a dinosaur but I'll give this thing a shot if I can get parts for it.

I love two strokes. I find them very easy to work on. This is a great site for info and parts. You may even be able to find a parts motor from one of the members. If you want to make the switch to 4 stroke there are peolpe on here that can help with that too. Keep in mind that if you make the switch to 4 stroke, you will have to change your clutches. The old 2 strokes are fast but noisy. My 400 has a tillotson carb which I find adequate and easy to work with. Some members have made the switch to Mikuni with good results. If you can find an old tilly the rebuild kits are about 30 bucks and there are videos on youtube showing step by step procedures for rebuilding them. The beauty of these carbs is they have a built in fuel pump that runs off a vacuum hose from the crankcase. I'm not sure about the mikuni's though. You may have to install an electric one. I did my budget rebuild on a 1970 argo 6x6 and it runs great. My bill from GPI was about 250 bucks and that included all upper and lower bearings as well as 2 piston kits. A local bike or sled shop should be able to rebuild the crank for less than 75 bucks. Any snowmobile wrecker should be able to fix you up with a tilly carb. Youtube 1970 argo to see mine in action.

Thanks again for the additional info. A four stroke engine will have to wait. I heard there are differences in the clutches for 2 and 4 cycles but I don't know anything about it. I'm starting work on a Camel Centipede that has a JLO 295. It also needs crank bearings. Hopefully I can get parts for that engine too. It ran strong years ago and I'll be looking into getting parts for that one also. Nothing against 2 cycle, just all the noise.

Hello Hydromike. Thank you fir the reply. I may be interested in a parts motor. The JLO 295 will be getting attention shortly. It's the original engine from the Centipede. I nicknamed it the Toad. I'm waiting on better weather and need to sell off a few toys to finance my wheeler projects. Seeing the enthusiasm form the folks on this site stokes me up. Also will be working on a Scrambler concurrently with Toad. I put a Baker-Hill ATV7000 gearbox in the Scrambler years ago to give it a proper reverse but retained the original clutch/brake steering. That one will be getting the Kohler or an Arctic Cat 340 twin. I think it's a Kawasaki. All need work. I'm really anxious to get started on these projects. In the process of getting info together right now.
