if you don't know what you are doing, find someone that does

I watched the video on valve adjuustment a few months ago. I have my top up on my Max to pull the exhaust restrictors out. I looked at the value cover on the back of the Briggs. I then took it off and saw all the neat things in there. I pressed on both springs, checked it all out and put the cover back on. The next day I bought a two barrel Carb and everything else that I would need for more power. I first decided to start her up. It didn't sound good at all(backfire). This was not the same engine. I shut her right down. Started thinking "what did I do", had to be the valves. Opened up the cover and found the push rods had fallen out of their seats. I pulled them out to make sure they were not bent. They were not. I pulled up the how to video. Put the rods back in place and adjusted the valves. With the cover back on, I stared her back up. Everything was good. Moral of this story. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!! At least I won't anyway!
