  • Help me with my carb!

Hello gentlemen, I am trying to get some good info on my vesely trailboss. The machine was given to me and I went through it since it sat unused for 15 years. Had no spark repaired the points system on the kohler engine. Replaced the fuel lines and spark plug, the carb was dirty I cleaned it out and inspected the pulse fuel pump. When you put a small amount of gas directly in the carb it fires and runs ok with throttle input but wont start on its own and runs not as it should. Please help! By the way I'm a new member and just joined so hello to all thank you -Josh-

If it has been sitting for 15 years you probably need a rebuild kit for the carb.
The rubber diaphragm is most likely not flexible and wont pump as it should.
Can you identify the carb and motor or post pics so we know what you have?

The motor is a kohler k3091st and i believe the carb to be a tillitson. I removed the diaphragm and it was flexible with no apparent tears, thats why I'm not sure whats goin on.

You need to figure out what model the carb is.
        Lots of info here: Tillotson
If the inlet control lever is not set properly it wont get fuel or will flood the engine.
The pulse tube from the engine must be clear and not cracked.....some dont have an external tube and its a small hole on the intake flange. The pulse from the engine operates the pump.
Also bad crank seals will prevent it from sucking fuel...look for oil leaking around the seal and sides of the block.
I had a kohler with a crack in the block that wouldnt run but fired when i sprayed fuel into the carb.
If you can do a compression test on the cylinder it might give you a clue as to whats going on.

Heres a great video to watch

The pulse tube is brand new I used rubber fuel line is that the right type of hose? Also it has good compression. What lever are you calling the inlet control lever is that the throttle or the choke or something completely different?

The inlet control lever is part #30 in the partslist.
I think you have the HR carb
