Check your points, there is a link to a manual down this forum in a post called electrical output early 80's 8x8. Or near to that from feb..

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

"there are two little parts off of the coil ?"
What do you mean by that?
Did the engine sit for a long time or was it running and just stall?
Is it a 2 stroke with coils mounted on the outside?
Its unlikely that both coils would fail at the same time
Did you hear any backfire when it was running?
Could be a bad ignition switch or corroded points.

anyone know what type of condenser I need for an 84 17hp Koehler. I believe that's why I have no spark to my plugs because I did a test on it and read nothing so I believe this is my problem and need to replace it.Thanks kindly for any help on this Cheers :-))

Try mfgsupply.com. I usually have some good luck with them and fast shipping.
Search results for: 'kohler' | MFG Supply

If you can give us the model # of your kohler 17 hp engine it would help.
The service manuals are here : Kohler Engines: Owners and Service Manuals: Manuals and Maintenance
The coil on the kt model has a + terminal on the coil from the keyswitch.
Test for 12v there when the key is in the run position .
Other models have different ignition systems so we really need to know the model # you have.

                      Ok heres your manual

Did you test if you have power at the + on the coil when the keyswitch is in run position?
Pg 32 and 33 explains how to test if your coil is good.
Pg 31 explains how to check the condenser.
