  • old 880 needs an air filter, any ideas?

I purchased an 880 a while back with a jet and fixed it up a bit and then it has been sitting.

I have 2 issues I need to resolve. First is the air filter. It doesn't have one and I need to figure out how to get something on it. It has a 2" throat on the carb and a 3 bolt mount. I am sure that there was some sort of air box on there at some time, but I never got that with the machine.

Does anyone have any good ideas how to put something together fairly quickly/easily to make a decent filter setup? the carb points straight back, so I think I would almost have to do a 90 degree turn to fit it on (there isn't a lot of room behind it, maybe 6" or so).

Anyone have any pics of what the original setup may have looked like?

I bought this primarily as an emergency escape machine during flooding in my area, and it appears that flooding is imminent so I need to come up with a solution quick.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

Is this the Kohler K309 single cylinder 2 stroke or the CCW 340 2 cylinder in your 880? Also, what brand of carburetor is that, a Walboro? Your best bet in locating an air cleaner would be to search ebay for a vintage snowmobile air cleaner assembly that used that same brand of engine.

its the CCW 340 2 cylinder. I don't know what brand carb it is offhand (I am not at home so I can't check right now). I will get the carb info and try to search ebay to see if I can find anything. Right now my best plan is to bolt a metal plate on the carb, and then sandwich a small round car filter between it and another plate. Ideally I would like to find something that appears close to original.
