Recently had the coil go [ roughly 1984 vintage]. everywhere I look it says no longer available. The rest is a good strong engine. Any ideas ?

The ignition coil for the OH and HH series Tecumseh engines is getting to be a VERY expensive parts since it has been discontinued a while back. They go for close to $200 used on ebay and the prices are doing nothing but going up, up, up. Look for one in an old garden tractor sitting behind someone's barn or field. That would most likely be your best bet."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

He is part of the Tecumseh engine group I follow because 1 of my sears /roper garden tractors has a 12 hp tecumseh. The othrs have 18 and 20 hp Onans. I also have an 81 argo Hd with a 16 hp OHV Tecumseh. The other is a 2001 Conquest with the 20 hp Kawasaki.
He sells conversion kits to basically change yours to an automotive style ignition.
If he can't help another fellow named Dale also has something similar.
I am sure you will find both very helpful.
Most of the time I just read the posts and up till now never have been able to contribute.
