  • Swap G50b to 20hp Kohler?

The 2 cycle in my RIM is just too loud. I love the power but the whole reason for getting it was to take the kids for rides. Whats the concensus about the Kohler command 20? I can get one with the tapered shaft cheap, and make an adapter for my clutch.

Don't use a 2 stroke clutch on a 4 stroke Kohler V-twin. It simply won't work. Get yourself an engine with a 1" shaft, non tapered, and get a Comet 4 stroke clutch.

Thanks for the reply jpswift1. I allready have a new 94c clutch with the 1:10 taper. The Kohler engine I'm looking at has the 1.2 taper, but it's at a good price. I have access to a machine shop, so turning the crank down to 1" and making an adapter would be simple, I've allready drawn it up in CAD. Looking for opinions about the Kohler, and any problems with swapping it in too a RIM (max iv).

The 20 Kohler was stock in the max Iv, so there should be no problems with fit or performance.

Cool, thanks drew. I'm working on this with a very tight budget and even less time.

You could buy the Kohler engine mount right from ri. I don't know what they would charge, but that and the wiring harness would make it a really easy swap.

I'll give them a call and see what they'd charge, but i'll probably just redrill the mount I have. I've got too talk to them about some other parts I need anyway. Thanks drew.

Yes, just redrill the mount that you have, get a Kohler wiring harness and then a throttle handle, throttle cable, choke cable and get your clutching figured out and you're set. Like Drew said, Recreatives used the Kohler 20HP V twin Command engines in lots of their Max II and Max IV models that they sold. Remember, you'll also need a green 4 stroke driven clutch spring for the clutch on the T-20 as well. The folks are Recreatives are VERY helpful and excellent to deal with. I forgot about the driven clutch spring. Something else too put on the list when I call. Thanks jp

Will do. Ordered the engine last night, it'll get here the middle of next week if all goes well.
