  • Walbro WR27 Carb

Over the winter I purchased an old Argo 6 Wheel that had been sitting in a garage for the past 15 years without being used or started.....it is in fantastic condition other than I can not get the carb to work properly......will not pump fuel...
I have ran the Kohler 440 engine by adding mixed gas into th carb throat but the engine will not run on it's own... I have cleaned the gas tank.....have taken the carb to three mechanics now and the carb still will not pump fuel........mechanics said that there is no way that the carb should not work but it doesn't.........I added a primer bulb on the inlet side so as to try and force gas into the carb but that did not work........I am no mechanic but I am trying my best to get this motor to run........I will order a carb kit as soon as I can find one but according to the mechanics, they believe evrything in the carb is OK....would love to see some pictures or information that would help,,,,,,,,,,thanks in advance

I am most defiantly NOT a small engine mech, but I'm willing to learn.
Does this carb have an "Anti Backfire" solinoid?
Are you saying you can get fuel TO the carb with your primer ball, but can not force the fuel into the carb, or it just won't get through the carb?
Since I have zero knowledge of this motor, I have to ask. What type of fuel pump is on this engine?

I am not a mechanic as well............sorry if I did not describle my problem properly.........I have fuel to the carb by means of the fuel line........but I am unable to fill the carb or supply fuel to the engine with the primer bulb......thought that if I added a primer bulb to the gas line that it would get gas...........I live in Northern Manitoba and I am having a problem finding a mechanic that can help........thanks for your reply......

Perhaps bazooguy will chime in here, I'm not familiar with the walbros but a tillotson with multiple plates needs the fuel ports properly aligned on plates. have you cleaned all the ports to make sure the fuel passes thru? is the fuel pump built in the carb? if it is I'd bet there is a small rupture in the diaphram from setting.

You need to get the rebuild kit and clean the carb.
Take the primer bulb off and make sure the fuel line has no leaks.
Replace the fuel filter and if it has a return line it should go back to the tank.
Is the crank pulse hose cracked or dried out?
Check the compression of the engine.....any oil leaks or bad crank seals?
If you can post a pic of your setup it would help.

Here is the info. Walbro carbs are a headache. In the long run you are better off with a Mikuni carb.

Thanks for the reply's.......I will order the carb kit ASAP...long weekend now.......has an internal pump.....I brought the same drawing to my mechanic and he said that is not my carb...?? WR27.......carb has been cleaned and soaked.......I am taking this Argo from Northern Manitoba to our farm North of Winnioeg....I know I will have mechanics there that can fix it....I needed this Argo to start and run until I could get it loaded on a trailer and after that I will get it professionally done....I certainly thought it would get gas in the carb....it has lots of suction on the carb throat.........I put my hand on it and there is lots but it will not pull gas....

Seems like I made a mistake on the identification numbers on the carb housing......I have been saying WR27.............I checked a paper that we wrote the ID number when we came out of the garage and the paper reads.WF27

Will it run if you spray fuel into the carb?
Remove the return line and spray some fuel in the carb to get the engine running.
It should pump air and fuel out the return line fitting.
Keep it running by spraying fuel in the carb until it starts to come out the fitting.
If no fuel comes out the carb is not pumping.
The rubber parts inside the carb get stiff and crack with age.....get the rebuild kit.

Thanks for the reply...........will order a rebuild kit Tuesday........motor will run if I put fuel in the carb throat and as long as I keep adding, it will run.........I do not have areturn on this carb.......I thought that I could put fuel into the carb using a primer bulb but no way....lots of suction at the throat.....put my hand over the throat hoping on pulling some fuel...no way.....tried to add gas through the primer...no way........

Setup a fuel container above the carb with a clear hose and siphon the gas to the carb.
Start the engine by spraying fuel into the carb and see if it will keep running.
Any leaks in the fuel feed line will suck air into the carb and it wont pump.

Thanks for the replies........last night I took the carb off again......left the primer bulb on the fuel line...........turned the carb on one side then the other, upside down......tried to push gas through the primer bulb....thought that I was getting no-where but when I tried it this morning it started and ran???? was able to drive it down the backlane and now have it loaded on the trailer...........washed and waxed it to show it how happy I was............have a good one everyone.......cliff

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here Albert.

I am having a similar problem with my Walbro WR6 that is on a CCW400. It will run great if I spray fuel in but not pumping on its own and also run on its own at higher RPMs. Cleaned tank, new hoses

Is there a spec on vacuum coming from engine I can test? I feel it sucking when I crank it.

I did rebuild carb. myself and blew out all ports. Took it back apart making sure I did it correctly and everything looks fine.
