Belt change

This has been bothering me for a long time. What if your out in the middle of nowhere and you blow the belt. What is the best way to get the new belt on on a MaxIV.

I place mine over the primary then roll it over the driven clutch from front to back(takes some muscle). Mines a 95 with a 23 hp vanguard, don't know if that makes a difference

Belt "blow outs" are not that common. Most of the time a bad belt will slip, squeal, etc. creating poor performance. You will be able to limp home on your own power. I smoked one in a mud hole once, had to be pulled out, but after it cooled down, it was fine to drive again. I was able to keep riding that day. Belts are just another maintenance item that needs to be changed periodically....my belt was original to the 40 year old machine, and needed to be replaced.

The best advice is to ride with other people....especially when in the middle of nowhere.

Good to know, The areas I ride are in Northern Minnesota and in the middle of nowhere. I also ride by myself there is no one with 6 wheelers that can ride with me. The four wheelers can't get across the swamps and beaver dams that I go across. I always wonder what I should have with me as far as tools to get me out of a fix. I should get one of those ground devices that can stick in and I can pull from when (if) ha ha, I get stuck. Anybody had any experience with these?

Hey wheeler, there are numerous threads on this site addressing "grapple" type devices,etc to aid with recovery. Also,members like RockDoctor who venture into areas where one could find one's self in a serious bind,have compiled lists of tools,spare parts,provisions,etc to pack along on such adventures. Being unprepared when something goes sour can ruin a good time in short order.

Works good for me. I've not had a huge load in it (yet hopefully this year will be my moose year) but I took the family out in the hummocks here in interior alaska and it pulled fine and was a hoot to drive. Overall its got good pull and top end isn't to bad either so I'm happy.

What devices do you use in your travels back in the land of nowhere. I do the same thing and get back in some areas that I would have to walk for miles and miles to get out. Do you have any tricks of the trade for getting out when stuck?
