Isn't that itty bitty little thing just precious?

I've turboed three things in my life, the first was cramming an old Steerman aircraft turbo from a radial 9 cylinder engine onto my Toyota Landcruiser. The air cleaner stuck out thru the hood on the front left corner. The chrome pipe in the photo was a drain pipe for a urinal, bought at a plumbing supply house. Hey, it was chrome, had the right radius bend and was the right size. The bad? My buddies found out, it it was forever on known as the "Toilet Landcruiser" Heaven knows what HP it put out, but she'd do 70 MPH in the sand dunes. (No kidding)

Now, you have me thinking... I wonder what a 20 HP Vanguard would put out with around 10 PSI of boost?!?

My second turbo job was much better done... in a 1989 Dodge Power Wagon with a 318. It had to be the world's only 4x4 truck with a three digit top speed. #3 was a buddy's Suzuki Samurai. Number 4 might be my Max II. (My friends always say: "Give him enough time and he'll eventually stick a turbo on it")

You can build Briggs engine to take the boost, but in the stock configuration it'll likely hurt it. You'd probably just end up floating the valves before a lot of damage happened. Al Hodge and George Herrin supply a ton of bulletproof products for the Vanguards that make them just about impervious. Performance V-twins has been testing a supercharger for both the small and big block Vanny's for a few years. Here's a video of someone with (what looks like) Al's blower on his Vanguard....

I say get some stronger valve springs and pushrods, throw in a set of the ARC rods, a decent camshaft and see what she'll do....
