  • tecumseh 16hp help needed

This is my second post, I am not new to the BB I have been watching it for well over a year gathering knowledge from everywhere.
Heres my question; I have a tecumseh oh160 model #170086A the old owner put an electric fuel pump on it and the carb is junk and un-rebuildable. I want to get the motor running as it did the day it was new, so I`ll buy a new carb, and pulse fuel pump but I can`t find where the pulse line connects to the engine I looked and seen no open holes for the line, I have looked at many parts fiches trying to figure it out but couldn`t so here i am asking the people the really know. if its possible a picture or 2 would be perfect. I`ll pay for this info in the form of beer thanks.

I just bought an older sears mower with a tecumseh OH160 for a transplant into my older argo. I can take pictures in the morning for you.

Look for a nipple on the bottom end about 6-10 inches under the carb.

The original pump was mounted in line to the carb. inlet, the pulse line came from the block under the carb like George stated. I just hooked one up with a Mikuni pump rmote mounted.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

You can see it in this picture. It's below and slightly to the left of where the carb sits. On this engine (out of an Attex Tomahawk) it's just to the right of some of the throttle linkage.

Now i`m disappointed I just went out and looked at my engine and it looks just like the one pictured but without the box on the right side and where the port is on the pictured engine mine is just a smooth surface I looked hard to see if it might have been there and nope no sign of anything so my quest continues

Is it possible that it was gravity feed ? if thats the case it would not have a paulse pump

I believe you can just drill and tap for a fitting to make it work if it was gravity fed originally. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Drew is absolutely right, the problem is the shavings and other metal fragments. Take the motor apart to do it, and clean clean clean when done. A pulse line could also be put into the intake manifold...and it's much easier to remove that.

I don`t think it was gravity fed the motor is in a 1977 terra jet the gas tank is in the front of the machine. and I`m sure it is the original engine unless someone changed it out and didnt know there was a difference. is it possible the port could be on the back side under the exhaust? I`m only asking because not the motor is back in the engine bay it is difficult to see.

the intake manifold sounds like an easier way to go. how to do it? just drill a hold and weld a fitting on?? will that give me vacuum for the pump without causing any problems with the carb sucking ???

Drill and tap to pipe threads, then get an adapter for that pipe thread to convert to a hose barb.

If there already is one into the crankcase it will leak if not plugged.

The block on the OH160 I,m working on was smooth also, I tapped onto the valve housing but perhaps George could give you a measurement to drill into the block. I used a vacuum as the engine was already mounted.
