    Need the engine model number

Can you tell me the engine model number? It should look something like this: T1A440S1B. I will tell you up front that Arctic Cat never published the horsepower ratings for the Kawasaki engines they used back then. It was for legal reasons. Warning on this engine, the cylinder farthest away from the fan always ran hotter than the other side. The chrome cylinder bore lining had a tendancy to flake off because of the temps. Unless the cylinders were fogged real well and ocassionally turned over by hand since being stored it could be a problem. They also had problems with the center crank seal going bad causing the engine to bog down when accelerating and eventually not run or barely run because of the oil fouling.

Let me know what that number is and I'll check to see what I have on it. I'm thinking 42 hp on the f/c 440 that was in the heavy Panther.

That engine was great when it was new and if it ran well and could be reved up to high rpms to keep that oil fouling to a minimum.

I would be interested in what you see inside that top end and the bottom end too. Let me know if you would.

Hey Madmax, I remember looking at an old Max brochure and the Kawasaki 440 was rated at 38 HP with a top speed of 45+ I believe.

Eric, my guess would be that the newer Kawasaki 440 that RI used had the CDI ignition. Either way, that will be one fast Max when you're done with it.

BSE made engines in (I think) the late 60s or early 70s for Moto-ski and maybe some other snowmobiles. I'm not sure of the ratings or history but they always looked suspiciously like Rotax to me.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

                    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

                        The condensed service data:

                        T1A440F2 bore 68mm, stroke 60mm, 436cc, Cooling type free air, 45hp@7500
What a difference a carb and loss of cooling fan makes!!!!
The T1B and T1C quite rightly show no horsepower specs
The only sled listed with T1B440s1 is the 1973 Arctic Cat PM-440, WDA-31 Walborough carb (single) and had a St. Lawrence Clutch.
                        Also not CDi but points.
                        headtorque figure 16 ft.-lbs
Will try and locate pictures to compaire with mine here.

Should mention manual came with my 1974 Cheetah and pretty much the same engine is going into my Jiger with the CDi being the only real difference. If you need any more information just ask.
