  • avenger charging problem

    Hello,

I have a 2006 Argo Avenger. A few months ago, the battery went flat. I replaced it but the voltmeter was not registering more than 12 V and soon the battery would go flat.

I checked voltage at posts and it doesn't go above 12.3 even with engine revving.

Main fuse checked, all wires seem intact and connections good.

So I am about to take it to the dealer but before I do, any thoughts on something else it could be other than charging coil failure?

    Thanks.

When you write "main fuse checked" are you talking the one in line or on the fuse panel?
    sigpic

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

      Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the 20 amp fuse in the block on the firewall in the engine bay, where is the main inline fuse located?

My last 2 charging issues on avengers have been due to the magnets coming off the inside of the flywheel and damaging the Stator.

Turn the engine over by hand and check for a grinding noise. You may also feel a vibration from the engine if a few of the magnets have come loose and the flywheel is severly out of balance.

I find the voltage regulator (rectifier) fails a lot. It's on top rear under the end of aircleaner. It has three wires in the plug. Center wire has to have battery voltage to charge. If it has voltage test between the other two wires with ohm meter. It should show resistance, can't remember how many ohms. If that tests ok check for ac voltage between two the two outer wires with engine running. They usually produce between 20 & 40 volts ac between idle and part throttle. Part # for regulator is41-403-10-S. I would get one from kohler dealer if it is bad. Loose ground screws on regulator can cause same problem.

Thanks! I will check this out.

You can try to have a load test to determine the culprit of your problem, but seems to be the its the charging unit either the stator or rectifier.

Following up after a long absence- it was the regulator as suggested.

Swapped for a new one and all is good!

                Thanks all
