  • Kawasaki oil change: epic fail!

Thought I'd try the oil pump through the dip stick tube to change the oil. The tube got snagged on something sharp and appears to have cut off several inches of the tube inside. Removed the dip stick tube hoping to find the remnant but no such luck. Not sure what to do next. Think I may have to pull the engine to tilt and hopefully pull the plastic tube out through the drain plug. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to split the case. What a mess!

    Any other thoughts?

it couldnt have gone far try taking a piece of mig wire with a hook on the end and go thru the dipstick hole and fish it out. it should be just laying there in the sump.

I'm going to keep trying that and hope for success. Pulling the engine doesn't sound fun, and splitting the case, a last resort.

I have one of those Oil Vac Pumps, I have not tried it on AATV, MAX IV, yet, but did use it on my Honda Snow blower. It too, was tight, I got some 3/16" clear plastic tubing at local Home Store. The 3/16" tubing was a perfect fit, good seal and a perfect fit into the oil filler tube. I'm planning to use it on t-20 to drain fluid.

Maybe try and over fill with oil and leave fill plug off don't run it but crank it over, it might show there . Maybe maybe

Got it! Removed the drain plug and jacked up the right side of the buggy then fished the hole with a thin, hooked, wire. Whew! After a couple of minutes I saw it slip out. What a relief. Then went to the hardware store and bought the fittings to install a valve and a hose nipple. From now on, I'll connect a piece of tubing and drain into a bottle. Lesson learned.

Glad it turned out easy. Sucking the oil through the dip stick tube is how I change my oil but the tube for my kit is flexible steel with a rubber coating. If it got stuck I would have to take the engine apart but I've never even felt a hint of a snag.

Ours has a Pex like tubing we added and never had any issues in 10 years, the hard plastic would be a better plan as it's less likely to get lopped off yet still flexible.

Ya I use a super sucker to draw oil out of engine too...it's got a good firm plastic hose and works well.

Glad it all turned out ok for you, that would have sucked to have to slit the darn case to remove that piece.
