  • Starter gear won't shoot out

Hello, my early 90s max 2 is having a starter prob. I took engine out to clean everything and replace some parts the starter was working fine, when I put it back together it would just spin so I ordered a new kit( plastic gear, spring,washer,ECT....) it still doesn't come out and catch flywheel, it just spins???? Could I have wired it wrong? Help....

the only thing I could think that you may have wired wrong is the battery leads. If you had them reversed, it might still allow everything electrical to function normally but have the starter spinning backward, and therefore not engaging the bendix. If this is the case, you almost certainly fried the kill wire diode between the coils, and it will only be running on one cylinder when you get it hooked up right

Just so you know racer1 you were absolutely right, I had been working all day and real tired(my only excuse) to hooking the battery up wrong. Switched leads and cranked right up. Thanx.... Norm.
