  • JLO 295 tillotson HR68A carb issues

    Guys, I have been fighting this carb for near a week now and decided I would ask out here and see if anyone has any ideas. At first the JLO 295 wouldn't run at all so i took the carb apart and cleaned it all up, put it back together and it would run but not very well. I ordered a rebuild kit and cleaned it all up, put it on and I can only get it yo run a short period and then it will not start, sometimes it won't even run if I wait. But sometimes if I wait a while and i can get it to start again. I realize there could be a multitude of reasons for not starting but any and all suggestions are welcomed...BTW if I just get tired of fighting with this thing what engines can I drop into this Terra Tiger? maybe a Kohler Twin? All I have around is a Kohler K301 out of a wheel horse garden tractor but figure it would be to small.

    Is the carb getting fuel from the tank at a good flow rate. Sounds like the carb is starved for fuel.
    When you leave it sit, the bowl refills,when you start it ,it runs dry again.

    Just my 2 cents.

      hi, could be the crank shaft seals too .... do u have a return fuelline to the tank? is there a vacumm hose to the block from the carb? if not, is the vacumm hole in the carb to the intake flange blocked?

        I agree if you don't have good vacuum you won't get a good fuel draw.

          I have taken the carb back off and checked the hole from the carb to the engine and it is not blocked, there is no return line from teh carb to the tank. It sounds like it is not drawing enough fuel. The tank os clear in the rear. If I put fuel in the plug hole it will start sometimes but not always and it has nice hot fire.

            If it does not fire when you put fuel in the cylinder,could be compression problem, crank seals, timing,etc. I assume since you said it has a hot fire, the rest of the ignition system is ok.

              Giving up on JLO

              OK guys, I think I am going to just give up on the JLO and put in a 4 stroke. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is a good bolt in to replace the 295 JLO in my Terra Tiger? Have any of you with a Terra Tiger replaced the JLO and if so what did you replace it with?

                i have a rotax in my TT mounted in the stock mounts (i know... not a 4 stroke) i would start measuring the crank to motor mount locations, and also the right side cover or pull start to the motor mounts. the engine sits so close to the right in a terra tiger that you have to be careful not to get something too wide, or you won't be able to get the clutch to line up.
                you'll also have to change the spring on the driven clutch which means taking the jack shaft out/ appart.
                if you are using the stock tank and the brass fuel line that runs through the fiberglass floor, check to see that the brass tube isn't pinched somewhere, thus restricting flow to the carb (check fuel filter too) hope some of that helps

                  tiger woes,

                  i think it is only 15" from the center of the secondary clutch to the side of the body.I measured a jlo 340 twin (not 4 cycle) and would have to remove the pull starter..happy measuring.....

                    Would be interested in getting that JLO 295 off your hands? I am loking for a Terra Tiger Powerplant, and am pretty handi with Carbs, so that doesn't scare me.
