,,,,Ummm it seems kinda silly,,but after the trans rebuild,,,we got all back together,,,,it fired right up,,go to shut it down,,,nothing,,key wont shut it off !
Anyone got an idea on this ????
As far as we can see all wires are attached,,,must be something simple,??,,,Mark

The briggs like most are shut off by grounding the coil out. It is a black wire ussually coming from under the fly wheel. Maybe something with the ground connection to the key? Just some ideas to double check.

m350, the ignition switch grounds the coils when in the off position. That wire connecting to the post near engine cowling above starter is it. Or you my have unplugged the wires in the dash like you said.

I had a similar problem with my 14 horse briggs when I built it. Initallly, the problem was with the ground wire that hooked into the ignition switch. The electrical terminal ends became to loose to properly connect together. I made the mistake of trying to blindly plug the wire back into the ignition switch accidently hitting a hot wire. You guessed it, shorted out the wire, wich luckily, was a fused link. I removed the ignition switch and corrected that problem. Then I replaced the fuse. It still wouldn't shut down and the machine ran horribly. I then pulled the plugs, individually and checked for spark. The first one was good but the second was intermittenly sparking. I checked the wires between the coils and it had a melted and bare spot on it. Through further checking I discovered one of the diodes was bad. I replaced the coil wires with the diodes on them and it now starts and shuts down flawlessly.
