see a lot going briggs and such. its seems very expensive to me as I can get a chevy crate motor with 280hp for 1200... why isnt anyone running like a changfa or yanmar diesel since it seems to be in the same price range?

Many different motor options
The cool thing about these machines is you can almost put in anything that fits.
Keep in mind you can run into heat issues inside a tub so you want vents on top to allow the air to exchange ,line up the drive pulleys and be mindful of any other obstacles .
I know it is easier said then done but it is not like putting a Car engine in were it will only work on certain transmissions
If it doesn’t fit, make it fit!Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

just found Kohler Aegis 25hp motor. Think I could get a long and thin radiator to fit the farthest back part of my cage on my mx IV, and do a row of fans. liquid cooled is a pita to deal with, but it does have its advantages. the motors hp curve isn't what I would like but it's got a nice torque curve.

A modification that I am looking at when I get around to it is the chev sprint motor 3 cyl. approx. 50 hp. and weighs in at 138 lbs, my kohler weighs 130 lbs. and I can get it in EFI. I can pick up a good runner for about $200 locally, it comes with harness and rad and electric fan. I have done one up grade on mine from 16 tecumseh - 20 hp kohler magnum easy switch. The advantage of the sprint/firefly motor is parts are cheap they are readily avaliable just about anywhere and I don't have to pay for a smallpart that I can get from a wrecker for less than half I would at a small engine shop, and it will have the torque and power to cover all the ranges. Also they have a regular charging system so you won't tax it running a winch or anything electrical.
PS. the sprint motor actually has smaller dimensions than my kohler, so fit will be easier.

Fpound one out in arkansas for 250 on car-part.com. might be a viable alternative. the extra hp and electric power there seems justified for the weight. motor seems frighteningly tall tho
I can't find this car in oklahoma, on craigslist anyway. Seems efi was only in canada? I'm sure I could get EFI parts shipped to me but honestly a carb seems so much easier to fix if elements break it and this motor has enough power to where it should have enough even if it bogs down on inclines. I like your way of thinking

Found one in WI for it looks like 85, there getting me a shipping quote. Going from an 80's ish 16hp tecumseh in the max IV to this. wonder what it's land speed will beI just saw your all about the link. Hopefully it will fit in the maxIV bay with out sticking out the top too much.

pgjeepster ,
This engine is a good choice for a motor in a Max IV and has been proven to work . This engine has lots of advantages of hp ,torque ,water cooling , long lasting , higher electrical out put , and the engine parts are easilty available , and at a much lower cost .Also , the engine weight is very similar . Sounds like a winner to me .

Could one use its transmission too?
I think the sprint, firefly and Suzuki swift are all the same motor
what would prevent you from using the transmission and brakes out of the same car ?
Shorten the or cut off the Cv’s and give it right left breaking for steeringWhy do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

How about a motor out of a yamaha RX-1 snowmobile. I see their is a totaled one @ crashedtoys.com that runs with clutches. Four cylinders, four carbs, four stroke that is liquid cooled and light w/a ton of go and a sweet sound. What ya think of that??Gunnar

I did all the measurements for my argo and it will fit, it's not too tall. If need be the motor could be mounted on a slight angle and use a wedge to keep the carb. level just don't slant it too much as you need the oil p/u to be getting it's supply. I would not try to use the transaxel as this was a transverse mounted motor and there would not be any room for this application, even if you could then your getting into ground up fabrication and there goes the inexpensive upgrade. The other nice thing is these motors are as quiet as a mouses' fart not the usual rap of a small engine.Last edited by pgjeepster; 04-16-2008, 01:19 AM.

I think argos have the motors mounted all the way down, I have a max IV and the motor mounts on a stool.

Sorry I'm not familar with your model I think all I have ever seen around here is the argo's. I have seen the other models in pictures but it doesn't do them justice. But where there is a will there is a.... you know the rest. It was just a thought for you, if it would work it would be a good choice for a power plant.
